MMA Record: 5-6 Kickboxing Record: 30-13 Boxing Record: 0-1-1
Hunt was born into a small, Samoan family. Living in a tough neighborhood in New Zealand, he was a troubled kid who had no intentions to be a fighter. One late night altercation outside a nightclub changed the course of his life. Sam Marsters, one of the bouncers at the door was impressed by the young man's knockout power and invited him to his Gym to start training. Later Hunt moved to Sydney, Australia, to train with Alex Tui. After he moved on from that he started to train at Liverpool Kickboxing Gym under instructor Hape Ngaranoa. Hunt started doing Pro Kickboxing fights and became the 1999 WKBF Australian Super Heavyweight Champion. Hunt then joined K-1. While in K-1 he won the 2000 K-1 Oceania Grand Prix and the 2001 K-1 World GP. He holds notable win over Jérôme Le Banner, Stefan Leko, Francisco Filho and Gary Goodridge.
Hunt Also had a very small Boxing stint with two fights, losing one and the other being a Draw
Hunt then went from K-1 to PRIDE FC. While in MMA he never had a Championship but he had a few shots at one. While in PRIDE he had notable wins over Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Filipović, both in there prime and ending Wandy's Five year undefeated streak. Hunt did have chances to fight in the 2006 Openweight GP and a shot at Fedor Emelianenko's Heavyweight title. Hunt then started to fight in DREAM. He had a shot for the Super Hulk GP but failed. He had no wins in DREAM. Now Hunt is set to make his UFC debut this weekend at UFC 119 against Sean McCorkle on the Preliminary Card.
I decided to make this for the new fans of MMA/UFC. Don't be put off by his record, almost all his losses are by submission and by some of the best submission practitioners around. The guy is VERY tough, not many people can take on a prime Wandy and not be deystroyed and also take some flesh on headkicks from a prime Cro Cop his only KO's where from Melvin Manhoef and Semmy Schilt, both can KO just about anyone. He is also VERY heavy Handed with most of his wins by KO. He is very exciting to watch.

Mark Hunt just...isn't very good. He beat an under-sized Wanderlei...and....that's it.
I'll give him credit for taking on the best fighters in the world, but when you can't beat any of them, that just means you're not in that upper echelon. There's no reason to praise mediocrity. This is like giving Jeremy Horn a tribute thread. Is he a good fighter? Yes. He's not great by any means.

In a controversial decision that many felt CC won. I'm not impressed. He also lost to CC in K-1, which had a clear cut winner. Mark Hunt is not a fighter people should get excited for.

He also gave Fedor a hell of a fight in his prime, a hard thing to do. He appears to be taking this UFC run seriously though. He lost the gut(or appeared to) in recent pictures. I hope he knocks the piss out of his opponent this weekend.

I really don't think anyone here is rubbing their hands together, nodding their heads, and legitimately thinking Hunt is going to set the UFC HW division ablaze. The guy comes to fight, and it is kind of exciting to see him get a fight in the UFC, regardless of how mediocre you feel he is.

How about you let people make up their own mind? Seriously? Don't play that card here. It's simply a statement. You can make up your own mind, I couldn't care less. I'm not telling you to never watch Mark Hunt. Trying to pick a meaningless fight will get you no where. I'm stating my own opinion. I'll get excited for people with potential, or even a future for that matter, not a 36 year old, one dimensional fighter that looked awful in his UFC debut. If you want to get excited over Hunt, more power to you. I'll stick with getting excited over fighters with true talent. Good luck to you.

I always though Hunt should have stayed in K1. In MMA he clearly counldn't be bothered to train any of the new skills he'd need to make the move between sports a success.
He has always been an exciting fighter though & seeing him in the best shape in a long time I had hopes for a successful run in the UFC. Clearly getting to the title was going to be beyond him but very entertaining fights against Yvel, Kongo, Barry & rematching with Crocop.
Sadly on Saturday night I saw him lose quickly 7 decisively to (with all respect) an MMA jobber. Time to hang the gloves up mark.
