'300' director Zack Snyder has been roped in by Christopher Nolan to helm the renewed version of 'Superman' franchise.
Snyder, who has directed films like 'The Watchmen' and 'Sucker Punch', will work closely with 'Inception' director to reboot the franchise.
Nolan, who revised the Batman franchise for Warner Bros, is all set to direct the third installment. Nolan will also produce the superhero film, Variety reported. "He provides that extra bit of wisdom to a process that sometimes lacks it. It's the best situation we could be in for this character," Snyder said.
David Goyer, who scripted 'Batman Begins', is writing the script, which is based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. "It's still early in the process but I will say that the story that Chris and David have laid out is pretty awesome," Snyder said.
Brandon Routh played the superhero in 'Superman Returns' but is unlikely that the actor will be asked to reprise his role again.
The producers are hoping to get the new film ready for release into theaters for holiday 2012.
"It's hard not to be a Superman fan with his place in pop culture and how iconographic he is," Snyder said.

Atleast with Goyer writing the script, there won't be a random 5 minute long sex scene in the middle of the movie.

I may be the only one, but I want Nolan as far away from Superman as can be, but meh, a Superman film has me excited, can't wait, finally seems as though DC has realised that Marvel have been kicking their ass Movie wise
Infact, I personally would love to see Tom Welling as Kent, however Routh wasn't that bad, well, I haven't watched all of SR yet, but I didn't see anything wrong with him so far

Thank you. I've never been a huge fan of Superman, but with Nolan and Snyder working together, I'm definitely excited for this.

I'd love to see Brandon Routh back as Superman. I absolutely loved his performance in Superman Returns and though I know the movie overall was somewhat unpopular, I think he was amazing in it. To me he IS Superman. But I doubt he can overcome the negative stigma attached with that movie.
So as said above, bring on Tom Welling. Obviously the Superman role in a movie would be dramatically different from the show, but he can pull it off and it would be awesome to watch him in 2 or 3 movies in full costume after the show's slow build.
Hell, bring in Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor too. Pay him $50M if you have to. He's been the best Luthor on film by a ridiculous margin. Way better than Gene "Used Car Salesman" Hackman and Kevin "Every delivery must be monotone and in the form of a question" Spacey. But that's probably more a commentary of the strength of scripting than actual acting ability. But much like nobody could possibly pull off T-101 like Arnold, nobody can pull off Luthor like Rosenbaum. I've love to see that.

Hell, just give us a Smallville Movie, complete with Green Arrow, and Chloe

Green Arrow, definitely! He's been the highlight of the show for the past 3 or 4 seasons. I'm a big fan.

You guys actually want this movie to be like Smallville? Eww, sure the first few seasons were ok but that's about it.
Still, I can't wait to see how this movie turns out and with Zod being the main villain I'm even more excited because even though Lex is a great villain he has been in like every Superman movie so it's a nice change.

This is the best possible decision. Zack Snyder's visual style/direction is exactly what a Superman film needs. Not to mention with Goyer writing and Chris Nolan producing the movie has so much going for it, it can't fail.

He was brilliant with Watchmen. So yeah, good choice.

Atleast with Goyer writing the script, there won't be a random 5 minute long sex scene in the middle of the movie. Random? Did you actually READ Watchmen? Snyder stuck more closely to the source material than ANY OTHER comic book movie director in HISTORY has. I am SO excited for this, Snyder has the vision that Superman NEEDS to thrive on the Big Screen! Zod as the main villain is gonna be awesome as hell too! Part of me wishes Routh would somehow be brought back, as you guys said. I didn't care for Superman Returns as a movie, but Brandon Routh as Superman was AMAZING. Alter that ugly costume he had a bit, and he could be THE Superman for years to come. Bring it on Snyder!

I have a copy sitting on my bookself at home, as well as a digital copy on my laptop. Is there a sex scene in the book? Sure.....but it sure as hell wasn't as long and drawn out as the one in the movie, and didn't feature a cheesy thrusters exploding at the "climax". Beyond that, and the ending of course, I agree that it was extremely close to the novel, hince why I own the Complete Blu Ray edition. I can enjoy the movie for what it is, and what it was trying to be more importantly, but that sex scene was unneeded, and too long. Sorry for having an opinion.

hopefully Nolans influence will be minimal here though.Snyder can do GREAT here imo.

I like Snyder because he's just a big dork living the dream, so I trust him to make a fun movie. I've enjoyed everything he's done sans Watchmen (which I still haven't been able to finish due to boredom).
