I found it to be pretty enjoyable. Seems like some people are really going out of their way to bash it. Meh, I dunno. I think it was better than some of the crapI've seen this year.
If you liked PA 1 then you will like the sequel.

Paranormal Activity was the most over-hyper over-rated movie of the last 5 years. Weak. Avatar.

Ah that would make sense, I didn't know that. I watched some guys review on the movie and he said SPOILER (white text) Paranormal Activity 2 takes place 60 days after the first one. Katie has already been possesed and she is going to cause disturbance to her relatives.Hes wrong about the second part. Katies sister's family is being haunted by the demon, they find out that the demon can be transferred to another blood relative, Paranormal Activity 1 begins.I thought it was pretty good, wasn't too keen on the first one though but this one is much more layered. The first half was pretty slow but after that, it really picked up. Everyone in the theatre laughed at the mysterious pool cleaner moment. Overall, it lacked the 'jump' moments, mainly because people knew what to expect from watching the first one, only scene that made me jump was the cupboards opening in the kitchen.Katie looked pretty hot in this movie, a bit smaller too.

Paranormal Activity was the most over-hyper over-rated movie of the last 5 years. Weak. Avatar. I agree, while I almost dosed off once during PA 2, I can honestly say Avatar was a freaking chore to get through, I really don't understand the love for that film. Say what you will about PA, was it overhyped? Totally, but it was shot on a dollar, had genius marketing, and was a huge success, I'm sure that will lead to studios taking chances on lower budget horror movies. The horror crowd can be a spiteful one haha, I'm certainly guilty of it myself...But I've gotta hand it to PA, it was an original low budget horror movie, not a remake, not a sequel, and imo it was a fairly effective film. With that said, it doesn't have a lot of rewatch value.

I actually enjoyed this one more than the first honestly.
It had a better story in my opinion. The few big revelations that they threw at us about why ALL of part 1 AND part 2 happened was a pretty cool little twist I thought.
I do, however, hope there isn't another sequel. These two movies are fine by themselves.
3.5/5

Saw it last night. I was totally against a sequel for quite some time, but i can honestly say that I'm incredibly glad they went through with it. It added so much more depth to the story and really hashed out some questions I still had after the original.
With that being said, I was just as terrified by this one as I was the first. Paranormal Activity will always hold a special place in my heart because I'm a sucker for viral marketing and ground-up productions like that. Not to mention it was the first horror movie to actually scare me to the bone and have a lasting effect.
The second one seemed a bit more personal - the idea of it involving a young teen and a baby just things seem that much more tense. I wasn't huge on a lot of the jump scares, because quite frankly, that's what all modern horror depends upon to spook the audience. I think it's ridiculous that to be scared, you have to be jumped. It's the total opposite for me.
With the first one, the lack of jump scares it what made it so terrifying. When I'm jumped, the fear only lasts for a few seconds and then quickly dissipates. The long, drawn out build and suspense is what sticks with me. I'm glad they didn't totally abandon that here.
With that being said, there was one particular jump scare that I can honestly say, got a bigger reaction out of me than any jump in any movie I can think of...Spoilers below:
The cabinets bursting open. Such a simple, yet effective jump scare that had my heart racing for minutes and just hoping that I'd catch some sort of a break after that to catch my breath and regroup.
I was half expecting to be let down by this one simply because I knew the format that was coming and had a relative idea of what to expect from it. That wasn't the case at all. I actually went in more nervous as a result, and because of that, was more sensitive to the atmosphere and jumpiness of the film.
Spoilers below...
I loved the ending as well. Bringing it back to the PA1 timeline and showing what happened with Katie really sealed the deal for me. The whole demon hunting the first born child story arc was incredible effective and I think they tied up the story together nicely.
I don't want to see another one, and I think I can stick to that feeling this time. For starters, I don't know if I could handle it at this point. Secondly, the storyline is done. Sure, Katie hasn't been found, but that's the mystery of it. She's still out there, and god only knows what she wants now. But the fact is, she has the baby and for all intents and purposes, it's a case closed kind of thing. I'd hate to see this become a franchise.
Finally, I have to comment on what was possibly one of the most nerve wracking things of the entire film. The black screen at the end was one of the most dreadful things I've ever witnessed. By that point, everyone in the theater was so spent and so terrified that we were just praying for it to be over. The suspense of wondering what might happen, or if it was truly over was terrifying. One of my favorite horror movie fake outs ever.
They certainly did it again, and there's no question I'll have trouble getting to sleep for at least a few nights.

This was on my mind for like 10 minutes after it happened lol How did the baby get back in the crib? I'm putting this in white since it technically is a spoiler... If I had to guess, I would assume that since the demon pulled the baby out of the crib, it's likely that it also put him back in the crib, as a way of messing with the rest of the house should they check the surveillance footage.

I might eventually check this one out. I liked the first one, as for a horror movie it was definitely eerie and didn't have all those cheap jump-scares. But to me, what was more interesting is figuring out how they did the effects. All of them could easily be done on my own computer - which is fascinating to me, sitting there saying "Why didn't I think of this?!"
