A lot of benefits can happen from this, I see no reason they wouldn't. We'd have to prove the test does not discriminate against any protected class of people. The only vote that matters is Justice Kennedy's. He is who we have to convince. Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia would already be on board on the overturn side. And Ginsburg, Breyer, and I'm assuming Sotomayor and Kagan. I don't see that as a problem at all.The only thing I know about Australian politics is Kevin Rudd was your previous PM, but you guys just elected your first female PM, but I do not know her name. Julia something... I don't know because I'm 13 and I don't give a damn. Yet you make fun of Americans?

What would be the point of this? It would do nothing for people like me. I have no political preference and choose not to vote. I know very little of American politics but only because I believe it's a broken system that I cannot change. That said, I still know the name of the Vice President. You guys are going a little overboard with this "force everybody to learn politics" stuff, though. Ever consider that some of us just don't care? Apathy is ridiculous. Everyone should care. What these people do does effect your life. I don't see how you can't give a damn about what effects your life. Saying in Chicago, vote early and vote often. I would love it if someone had to pass a simple test just to vote. Make it a 10 question test with stuff right off the citizenship test. Who's your current Senator? Representative? VP of the US? First ten amendments to the Constitution are called what? It would be ridiculously unconstitutional though.

I only know who the Vice President is, the other questions, I had no clue what the answers were. I hate politics so much.

I guess I agree with that but what if they fail? No point in having a test if there are no consequences otherwise they wouldn't care to pass. I think it all starts with the youth. I'm ashamed to be 16 and have most kids my age not know a thing, worse because I get generalized about it and get "kicked out" of all politics debates. Maybe we go Kliquid's route and revoke their voting. As we can see from the video, race was not a factor in the stupidity and neither was gender. However, these all seemed to be college aged kids. Maybe we move the voting age up to 21 or older. But you're a liberal and pro-Obama, correct? Well, most uninformed young voters went with him because he was the hip, young candidate to vote for (not in every case, especially in certain regions, but in many cases - I voted for him too actually, but for other reasons), so you should be wanting to keep their ability to vote, lol. Anyway, many Greek writers and philosophers in ancient times hated democracy because they felt that it represented rule by the needy, and felt that the lower, under-informed people could not choose correctly who they wanted in power...so those writers felt that voting rights should be taken from them. What you are suggesting here is basically the same. They have the right to vote whether informed or uninformed, it's that simple.

I knew none of them other than who the vice president is. Then again, I care 0% about politics.

Honestly, knowing the amount of representatives and things of that nature aren't something I'd expect people to know.

I want to clarify a few things... - I don't think people should be forced to give a damn about politics. If you don't care, you don't care. Some people prefer to just live their lives and let others decide what happens "behind the scenes." While I feel that this is sad in some ways, I can understand the mentality.
- Knowing the answers to these questions is largely irrelevant. Should people know who the Vice President is? Probably. But do they need to know who the Speaker of the House, the Senate Majority Leader, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (I didn't know this one...)? Not really. Unless they are from your state or in some sort of national scandal, there's really not a whole lot of reason to know them.
- I'm surprised at how many people didn't know how many Senators there are. I'm not surprised at the number of people who didn't know about the number of members in the House of Representatives. There's not exactly an obvious mathematical formula, like there is for the Senators (states * 2) that makes it simple to remember.
- The test I spoke about would be about the person that you're voting for. I don't care if people have no idea who the other Senators, House members, or even the President are. If you're taking the time to vote for someone, though, you should at least have some semblance of an idea of what he or she stands for.
- I would absolutely not support a bill that requires Americans to pass a general political knowledge test in order to vote. They should, however, have to know a bit about the person they're voting for.

There are some groups out there that want to make voting mandatory.
