World Extreme Cagefighting is merging with its sister organization the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In the video interview below, Dana White exclusively confirmed that the merger will take place in January 2011. In addition, White said that four UFC events will air live on Versus in 2011. The final two WEC cards will air on the cable network on Nov. 11 and Dec. 16, which means that starting next year, the UFC will absorb WEC's 135, 145 and 155 weight classes. White explained the timing of the decision and what this means for all parties involved. He also provided updates on what's next for Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz, as well as his take on the Undertaker-Lesnar exchange following UFC 121. www.mmafighting.com/2010/10/28/dana-white-wec-ufc-to-merge-in-2011/

I'll be honest, I'm not that happy about the timing of this. For starters it sucks because Aldo turned down the fight with KenFlo and honestly I wanted to see Bendo fight more WEC "lower level" LW's before going to the UFC. However those Two guys in the UFC is gonna be ing awesome.

Also according to UFC Twitter the winner of Bendo VS Showtime will fight the winner of Edgar VS Maynard for the UFC LW title.

oh man....Aldo in the UFC is going to be insane....very interesting how he turned down a fight with Ken-Flo, though...wonder what his reason was...
I hope the UFC utilizes the talent though...it kind of sucks that this is happening because WEC had the best shows from top to bottom imo.

okay...
1- Did they do this interview at Dana White's grandparents house? I'm sure they could have found some decent lighting in someplace rather than those hideous 1957 curtains.
2 - Like the person conducting the interview said. It's smart to keep Aldo at 145...for now. Let them build the FW division. Now that they're part of the UFC, they'll go out of their way to spend more money on bringing in bigger name talent. Use money to leverage a guy like Marlon Sandro. Then when you feel you've built a division and don't need Aldo to carry it, move him to 155. Let's all pretend like the LW division is thin and needs him now anyways. Yes it lost Penn, but it adds Bendo, Cerrone and Varner.
3. The FW/BW divisions BETTER ben in the next UFC game. That's the only way I will buy it next year. Using Urijah Faber = me smiling.
4. I REALLY hope this means the UFC starts to cut their "dead weight" in order to get more fights for the talent they're bringing in. As much as I like some of TUF talent, I don't need to see these guys are on the free cards that don't belong there. James McSweeny, Nick Osipczak, etc...I don't want to see them to be honest. Free card or not. Now you have added 2 divisions with MUCH more exciting fighters. Put those guys on our free cards from Germany/England/Fight Nights. I'll never complain again.

Awesome, awesome, awesome news.
To be honest my main emotion about this is happiness for all of the WEC guys. They bust their ass just as hard, and now they'll be getting to fight in (what the average person considers) the "big leagues."

On top of all that, he'll be defending his featherweight title at UFC 125.

I'm kind of bummed since WEC is my favourite promotion and I'm going to miss their absolutely stacked cards. But of course you have to be happy for these guys getting to showcase their talent on the big stage. Plus Brittney Palmer on every UFC PPV makes me a happy panda. I hope they keep the design of the WEC belts and just put UFC on them instead. RIP WEC.

The first offical featherweight fight to take place in the UFC, unless one is added to an earlier card, has been announced by MMA Weekly, and it will be BEFORE the year is over: Leonard Garcia will face Tyler Toner at the TUF 12 Finale. mmaweekly.com/leonard-garcia-meets-tyler-toner-at-tuf-12-finale-on-dec-4Apparently there is a possibility of other featherweight and bantamweight fights being added to the remaining UFC cards of 2010 to begin the transition.
