A special half-hour pre-show and post-show. From MMA Junkie:
I posted this here due to the merger. I figured with only 2 events left, WEC stuff might as well go in here anyway right?
Versus has dedicated some extra airtime to next week's WEC 52 event.
The show, which takes place Nov. 11 with a Urijah Faber vs. Takeya Mizugaki headliner, will air with a half-hour pre-fight special and a half-hour post-show special.
WEC executive Peter Dropick confirmed the plans during today's media conference call for the event.
Details of the specials will be announced shortly, but Dropick said the shows "most likely will be on site with our studio (live) from The Pearl."
WEC 52 takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The night's five-fight main card airs on Versus. It's the second-to-last show the WEC hosts before a January merger with its sister promotion, the UFC.
The WEC previously had an unofficial wrap-up show with "The Daily Line," a nightly sports news and talk show that did a thorough job of recapping WEC events. Executives, though, recently canceled the show following its struggle to gain traction with viewers.
Versus has been the longtime cable home to the WEC, and in addition to live events, airs the "WEC Wreckage" highlights shows and other packaged clips. Dropick, in fact, said such content will continue to air on the all-sports cable station through 2011. However, with the UFC merger, the Versus no longer will air live WEC cards beginning next year. As a consolation for fans, though, Versus will air four annual UFC events (up from two in 2010) beginning next year.
