God I hate Kanye....... and not because it's "popular" to hate him.

when he came on during the parade, I muted the TV. My mom questioned why I muted it. "Because I don't want to hear this obnoxious prick". She takes a quick glance at the TV, sees him with like 50 chains on dancing like he's having a seizure, agrees with me, and goes back to whatever she was doing. ...and that's what happens when people don't get to hear music for themselves and take someone else's word for it.

I still think half of what he's done he wouldn't do if his mother wasn't alive. Unless your mom was crapto you, no one ever not grieves over the person who birthed you when they die.

It would have been so bad ass if as the people were booing him, Runaway started playing and Kanye pulled out a glass cup and held it up in the air.

don't know why any of you give him the time of day - like or dislike.

I'll admit Kanye has talent, calling him a genius though is a bit ridiculous. He's certainly not talented enough in my eyes to be so up his own ass. Theres alot more talented people in music (and hiphop). He's a good producer but a throwaway rapper. Nothing amazing.

If people on this forum use the term genius to describe Lady ing Gaga then in my book Mr. West is a supergenius.

If people on this forum use the term genius to describe Lady ing Gaga then in my book Mr. West is a supergenius. I wouldn't call her a genius either. I just think it's staggering when people, entertainers in particular, release an album or two that people like, they're "geniuses." If someone were to bestow the term "genius" upon The Beatles, or Led Zeppelin, or some other group who released albums upon albums of music which impacted and changed the industry, I wouldn't have such an opposed viewpoint. But Kanye West? Or anyone involved in popular or hip-hop music at this point in time? I just don't share the notion, I'm sorry.

Most of Led Zeppelin's music was just taken from blues, especially in Jimmy Page's guitar work. To call them geniuses is a bit silly to me considering they were just taking other things but with a pop sense to them. Most "geniuses" in history were a bit crazy. Go read about Mozart; musically a genius, but had a thing for scat. But to call Kanye a genius right now is a bit much. Time will tell. I mean people call Tupac and Biggie geniuses, I've never cared for either of them.

He just happens to be the guy NOT doing the same thing as most other hip-hop artists at this time. He's a lot like an amped-up, modern version of Axl Rose. Millions of people all over the world love him and his music, but behind it all he's a lunatic who makes a bad name for himself every week with some ridiculous statement or action. If that's what it means to be a musical genius, then I'll put my own opinions (of people like Mike Patton being a genius in a musical sense) completely aside.
