He's done this before, but for some reason, I think it's for real this time. He's realistic now in thinking that he can't be a contender with today's light heavyweights.

I'd say it's time for him as well. If he goes out now, he's going out good, 3 wins in a row, not 3 KO losses like Chuck. Randy has always been my all time favorite, so I'd rather see him quit while he's ahead rather than beat himself into retirement.

I think Randy retiring now is the best move for him, as far as competition and his legacy. He's not going out like Jens Pulver, Ken Shamrock or Chuck Liddell. All 3 are legends but their losses are piling up quickly and it may lead some fans to believe they were never that good in the first place. As preposterous as that sounds, its true. Many people only judge a fighter based on their last fight, not the career.
Randy Couture is an absolute legend. Riding high on a 3 fight win streak with a huge fanbase still there is the way to go. Couldn't ask for a better way to go out, in my opinion.

Read about this earlier, like Hero said, he's doing the best thing ever, to go out on top, to still have a huge fanbase while MMA is immensely popular is great for him.

I can see them giving him one last fight in Machida.
Outside of Toney and Van Arsdale, Couture has fought pretty much NOTHING but great fighters/top guys.

Randy Couture vs. Stephan Bonner. This should be his last match.

Couture vs Liddell 4, and then they both retire... for definite - if Chuck's not already retired.

I talked to Oli about this earlier. Couture vs. Ortiz, have both be coaches on TUF and both retire after the fight win lose or draw.

I can see them giving him one last fight in Machida. Outside of Toney and Van Arsdale, Couture has fought pretty much NOTHING but great fighters/top guys. I can't fault you because Van Arsdale wasn't great or a top guy, sure, but he was a mother er, man. Van Arsdale vs. Couture from UFC 54 was an awesome fight, Van Arsdale looked great with his wrestling and actually hit Randy with a lightning bolt of a right hand near the end of the first, I believe. Imagine how the landscape would have changed had Van Arsdale won that fight? To the topic at hand, though, I'm totally cool with Randy stepping out at this point. He's 3-0 in his last three fights. I think it's a great time to step out. The finale to his career being that he stood up for MMA and put the pest to rest (accidental rhyme) in James Toney is a great curtain call in my opinion. If he doesn't fight again, I love it. Hats off to Mr. Couture.

I think Couture sees that he had his time now and feels its time for a all new generation of fighters to step foot in the octagon. I hope and believe that this retirement is for real.
