Does anyone know when exactly 'Rocky Mavia' became 'The Rock'? I tried looking for videos on Youtube without luck.

I don't know the specific time, but I do remember it was sometime in late 1997, when he became part of The Nation of Domination. Announcers used to call him Rocky Maivia for months after, like at Wrestlemania 14 but he cut a promo around the time of the nation where we were to address him as "The Rock"

I remember even as a face, JR would often refer to him has Rock while giving play by play. Yup, actually in his debut match JR calls him Rock. At one point during the match JR yells out "put him away Rock". Of course Rock at the time was just used for short for Rocky. Much like Mickey did Balboa
