What I mean is, I started watching wrestling in 96, and I just can't see myself buying a figure of somebody in their attire before that time, or if they retired by that time. Like the DM macho man looks great, but for some reason I just will never buy it, because by the time I started watching, he was in wcw and the verge of joining the nwo. So do you by figures of people that were around before you became a fan?

Well, I started watching wrestling in the mid 70's and there really hasn't been any made from Mattel before then. There were a couple in Jakks CS line and yes I did buy them. But I only buy guys that I enjoyed/enjoy watching.

Yes. I started watching it in 2000, so all of the 90's stars were unknown to me. Then, when I was about 15 or 16, and had a job, my parents let me sign up for 24/7 on wwe.com and, needless to say, I went to town watching as many matches as I could. I started watching the classic stuff, and now, some of those matches and stars top the current matches and wrestlers. I then started collecting the Classic Superstars line, sold all my Jakks, and now collect all of the Legends.

Yes, when I was old enough to remember I went back and watched pretty much everything since Hogan's first title win and some stuff before that.

I started watching wrestling in the mid-80's. The 1st event I remember watching was WrestleMania III. There are definitely people I am fans of that wrestled before then.
If you're a die hard Yankees fan, and were born in the 1990's, would you buy a Babe Ruth figure? (if you collected baseball figures) I would.

I'm a wrestling fan first and I love it's rich history, so yes, I buy figures from before my time ('87)and honestly, I wish they would make more of them.

I'm a little older. Started watching wrestling at 2 and can still recall the very first time I ever saw it. The Original Sheik bit some jobbers nose and it looked like he bit it off. It scared me and became an obsession simultaneously. So that was 1980. With that in mind there really wasn't anyone made by Jakks or Mattel that was before my time. The only one I can think of that "sort of" fits the bill is the wrestling attire Gorilla Monsoon. Never saw him wrestle until I saw footage on Coliseum video back in the mid 80s. I was however very familiar with him as an announcer so I still knew who he was of course. Now if either company squeeze out a Gorgeous George, then we have a winner. Knew who he was as a child thanks to tales from my grandparents and parents. But he was definately before my time. And I would buy him in a heartbeat. But really anyone in my generation will most likely been introduced to Verne Gagne,Lou Thesz,Buddy Rogers,Bruno Sammartino etc. As all of those guys didn't officially retire until the 80s or even later in Rogers case(wrestled sporadically until his death in 91).

Buy it if you like Macho, or if you just like how the figure looks. I only buy character I like or look appealing to me. Like Kamala...I didnt really care for him much growing up watching him in the 80's, but his legends figure was so well done and looks exactly like him that I ended up getting it, but for George the Animal Steele...I didnt care for him and the figure didnt wow me so I passed on him =P So, get who you like or who looks cool to you, you can't go wrong with that....and who cares if they were before your time =)

I guess the only real wrestling figure line that was "before my time" was the AWA Remco line. So, I guess no would be the answer. I was born in 1986, but have collected since I can remember.

Yes, I do. Weather it be some of the Jakks CS figs like Jack and Gerry Brisco, AWA Remcos, ect. I have spent so much time watching older matches from AWA, NWA and others. I love this business and its history.

I started watching wrestling a little before Wrestlemania 1 ....the golden era . So I basically get all the legends or classics.

Pretty much no. Besides the EG M$M because I love the figure, and because my local morning radio show has wrestlers come on once in a while and tell stories from the past, and the 2 times I've heard him on the show he tells the stories so well that I'm in tears laughing, not to mention his amazingly evil laugh. And when they asked him about drug use during his time or other serious issues, he didn't hold back or BS unlike some other retired/semi-retired wrestlers I won't mention.
I also started watching wrestling in 96, so I didn't see Savage in his prime but still saw plenty of him in WCW. So I bought his DM figure eventhough I didn't see him during that era, bottom line its still a Savage figure.

I don't own a single figure of a guy I don't like or haven't been a fan of at some point. Now, that being said I would definitely buy older versions of those guys like Flair or Steamboat who I cheered for in the early 90s but had to go back to see their truly great matches in the 70s and 80s. I was born in 84 and started watching wrestling in 89ish, so chances are if a guy wasn't around during that time period still I probably don't care about him. When I was kid I got to watch Macho Man, Piper, Dibiase, Flair, Warrior, Steamboat, Perfect, Jake the Snake, etc. regardless if it didn't happen to fall in the prime of their careers. So I still have a close attachment to those characters and want those figures on my shelf no matter what attire they are wearing.

I love this business and its history. Exactly my thoughts. I guess you can quote me in your section "I agree with BuckDenaro". I started watching wrestling extensively in early 1986, when I first saw Flair on TBS with the NWA Title. I've been on a quest to get every figure I possibly can of any NWA Champ (customs included). So my answer is a resounding YES.

Yeah why not? I collect all the Legends and while i know most or all of them, doesn't mean i saw everyone of them though id o watch classic stuff when i can. Also if i buy the whole line i am not going to not buy one figure b/c i never saw him if i have all the other ones.

I only started watching in '99, so yeah. After WWE released that Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 80s DVD in '05, I was hooked on 80s wrestling and pretty much wrestling history in general.

Very rarely. Of all my Mattel and Jakks figures, the only one I have from before my time is Rick Rude -- I started watching right after WrestleMania VII, and he'd been gone from the WWF a few months by then (but he was still going strong in WCW). I don't think I ever got his Hasbro figure because when I started collecting them, he was someone I didn't know. There were a few other Hasbros I didn't get for that same reason -- Akeem, Demolition. Although I did get Brutus and Honky, probably because of the accessories (and that Hasbro Honky was cool-looking).
I think nowadays I'm mostly getting guys from my time, but maybe a little before if they're iconic. I got Rude, I'll probably get Demolition, maybe Iron Sheik if I ever see it really cheap. Not sure about anything older than the Hogan era though. I couldn't see myself ever buying a Bruno Sammartino figure.
