The one here in Syracuse was supposed to be seasonal only last Christmas, but it stayed open all year. This year they actually closed, which I didn't mind because over the summer they only got in one series of elite, basic 2, and the rest was over flow of old Jakks crap that just collected dust.

What exactly is a TRU Express? Looks identical to KB toys.

TRU Express is a seasonal Toys-R-Us that goes into malls. Some end up staying permanently (Mall of America is one I know), while the bulk of them close after the holiday season. From what I understand, they do fairly decent business, and have really helped the overall TRU business out.
It was nice because in my town we do not have a Toys-R-Us at all - the closest one is 90 minutes away. As far as wrestling figures goes, mine is the only place in town that got in the Legends series 2, and of course the Legends 2-packs and the Wrestlemania ring. We did get a lot of the basic series 3 like most other TRUs, but we had only had one case show up at our Target so this did help people out.

It's a shame that TRU Express is only seasonal. We once had an actual TRU right down the road from me, but for whatever reason they switched it to just a Babies R' Us (considering all the young, hoodrat little mothers in my area, I suppose it was a wise business choice on their part). It was nice having TRU Express in the same shopping area as the old TRU. Sucks to see it go.

I think it's the way of continuing the KB name because if I remember correctly, TRU bought what was left. Mine was selling little kid toys [like 8 or 9 years and younger] that had "KB Classics" on the box. Mine closed just before the new year, I believe it was Dec. 30 and they were having a store-wide closing sale.
And a Wikipedia check confirms: "Toys R Us announced on September 4, 2009 that it had acquired the remains of K·B Toys, consisting mainly of its website, trademarks, and intellectual property rights."
