I am a big fan of the nWo, and IMO, it could've made a lot more money for WCW than it did. We had that angle until it was plain obvious we were completely sick of it. Anyway, I think that with some simple changes the storyline could've been a lot better. Here's my idea:
First mistake: End Goldberg's undefeated streak. Let him continue to defeat jobbers, but at a certain point, make him face people like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko in matches were some are squashes, but some others where they almost end Goldberg's streak.
Now, lets say politics weren't used on Sting vs Hollywood Hogan at Starcade 97. We had that big match with Sting winning the WCW Title. On Nitro, we have the nWo come out without Hogan, they start talking about they might need a new leader, which would be Kevin Nash, since they think Hogan doesn't have as much power as he did. Hollywood Hogan comes out, and says there's no way that is happening, and he will prove that he is still the biggest icon in professional wrestling. Then, with the help of a nWo member, he defeats Sting in a rematch that takes about 6 months to take place, as Sting is busy feuding with Bret Hart and Chris Benoit, who is now being pushed to the main event. Meanwhile, Hogan stars beating some cruserweight leading to a winning streak. Then, Goldberg challenges Hogan, but this won't happen at WCW Nitro, it will happen until Starcade, as they start hyping this big match. Hogan then again, loses to Goldberg. The following night Nash and the nWo come out to say that Hogan's last chance failed, but Hogan says if he doesn't like how things are going, he can leave. Nash says he will, but some are coming with him, which leads to the formation of the nWo Wolfpack. With the help of the nWo Wolfpack, Nash defeats and "injures" Goldberg. The two factions keep fighting. nWo Wolfpack is losing the war, until the recruit Sting. Sting decides he will join and face the nWo Hollywood, but tells Nash that then his target will be the Wolfpack. Sting then joins forces with Nash and Hall, and face Hogan and two nWo Hollywood members (no celebrities, though), but at the match, the Wolfpack turn on Sting. Sting is trying his best, but there are so many people, that he can only take out some of them, until they beat him down. Sting says he won't let the nWo take over WCW again. Goldberg makes his return, as Sting faces Hogan at Bash at the Beach 99, and if Hogan loses, the nWo Hollywood disbands for good. Sting wins but gets beatdown by the Wolfpack so he won't be able to help Goldberg n the main event. Nash vs Goldberg for the WCW Title ends with Goldberg demolishing all Wolfpack members and winning the WCW Title. Two months later, Sting returns after Goldberg defeats DDP to retain, he applauds Goldberg's victory, as he then points him with the bat, setting up the challenge for Starcade 99. WCW's biggest stars, the responsible men for taking out the nWo now facing each other, for the World Title, at the biggest PPV of the year. Who wins? You decide.
So, do you think this could've made the storyline any better?
