So tonight debuted the new panel.
What were your thoughts of them and did any of the singers interest you?

me and my family were laughing our asses off at some of the stuff, especially Stephen, the Jersey rip-offs, and that one girls imitation of Randy. So far, so good.

Thank god Ellen DeGeneres is no longer a judge, can't see why they made her one in the first place. Sucks to see Simon Cowell not being one of the judges, but I quite surprised Steven Tyler is a judge.

Crappy judges.
I almost feel like the girl who was 'awkward' and begged her way in is a legit aspiring broad way actor who's doing this to promote herself or something. If so, it's genius.

Was that the Britney Spears fan? After she got done singing we got to talking so I didn't see the end of that. I honestly liked the crazy Britney Spears fan.

She had a gray tanktop on, I think... She just seemed... ...like she was acting, and even the judges said she was right for broad way.

It's decent I guess.
There was one guy I thought was a good singer [16 year old] but everyone else so far was just okay or worse.

Meh, I haven't seen any overly funny stuff so far (hr and half in). But I agree with the possible Broadway actress who will use this in her demo. And I'm absolutely annoyed by the laughter of the crew off camera, who aren't judges.

The 16-year-old kid who sang "Yesterday" was my favorite of the night.
Letting the Britney Spears fan through was awful, but I have no doubts she'll be gone by the end of Hollywood Week. The real bubbly girl got on my nerves, too, but again there's always the saving grace of Hollywood Week eliminations.
I actually liked Steven Tyler's enthusiasm throughout, but I think I would rather listen to Paula hopped up on meds than Jennifer Lopez each week.
It was a decent start to the season, but I still wish that more of the golden ticket winners were shown from the auditions.

They have two nights.
They should show on one night the great singers and the next night the awful ones.

How many nights of auditions do they have? These past 2 days weren't all that great imo.

I think 2 weeks but I could be wrong.
If not 2 I would guess 3.
I thought there were a couple good people but yeah overall no one really stood out a LOT.

The girl in the apartment below me had a ton of people over for the damn thing last night. I hate American Idol so as they all gathered around to watch it, I put in Die Hard and greeted their American Idol with machine gun fire.....Just thought I'd throw that out there

This season just doesn't feel "right." It doesn't feel like the show I've been watching for the past 6 years. Damn...6 years, I just realized that.
I'm glad that Ellen and Kara are off the show. I feel like neither of them contributed anything to the show, this is going much more for Ellen than Kara. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are much better choices, being in the music business which is more than be said for Ellen. Steven Tyler has gone from frontman of America's greatest rock and roll band to glorified cartoon character but that's neither here nor there, he's rather entertaining.
The big problem I have is that there's no *conflict.* Nobody disagrees, it's like a bunch of yesmen. It's always unanimous, yes or no. Part of the fun in seasons past would be Randy and Paula agreeing to put this person through and then Simon would say something horribly demeaning in that equally horribly demeaning accent of his. It made for a rather suspenseful decision. This season though it's just Yes Yes Yes or No No No, what's the fun in that?
The other thing I really don't like about this season is the surprising lack of "rockers." I mean, American Idol hasn't exactly been known for producing rockers, they pepper a few here and there throughout the seasons (Chris Daughtry, Bo Bice, David Cook, Adam Lambert in a way) but this season seems very overly focused on R&B/soul. I would be very surprised, at least at this point in the game if it wasn't a big-voice singer of the R&B/soul genre winning it. Which is totally cool, it's just not my thing. If there isn't at least one "rocker" on the show this year, I just won't watch.
