Earth could be getting a second sun, at least temporarily. Dr. Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland, outlined the scenario to news.com.au. Betelgeuse, one of the night sky's brightest stars, is losing mass, indicating it is collapsing. It could run out of fuel and go super-nova at any time. When that happens, for at least a few weeks, we'd see a second sun, Carter says. There may also be no night during that timeframe. www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/20/two-suns-twin-stars_n_811864.html

Well, it's already early 2012.
I heard this predicted way back in the 80s though.

I think we would be blessed to see this happen during our life times.
I just wonder how it would effect us? Would the planet heat up?

The cool thing about this is that if we see the light from this tomorrow it means the star really blew up back when the most advanced technology was the bow and arrow and you had knights on horseback riding around. Ghengis Khan may have been alive when this sun went nova.

Ghengis Khan may have been alive when this sun went nova. Or since it's in Space, it blew up in the future and has separated itself and sent part of the explosion back in the past thus causing the whole Earth to be in daylight ;D
