April 6th, 2009 - Houston, Texas. After a three minute package highlighting the events of the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania, the usual Monday Night RAW opening video plays, as the commentary team of Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler welcome the fans to the start of a new year in the WWE, and to Monday Night RAW! The theme of Randy Orton then plays, the 'Viper' making his way out with the Legacy. He says that last night he was screwed out of the WWE Championship by cheating tactics. He then says that he will not leave the ring until he granted another match for the WWE Championship! At this point John Cena makes his way out, saying that if Orton feels like he wants a shot at a Championship, why not try to beat the man who brought World Championship gold back to RAW, John Cena, tonight for his newly won World Heavyweight Championship tonight! Orton is about to respond, but he is cut off by the theme of William Regal. Regal says he has been temporarily placed in charge of RAW while the McMahon family recovers from thier recent ordeal, and says there will be no World title bouts tonight! He then says he is making a blockbuster handicap match main event, as the Legacy will battle John Cena, and WWE Champion Triple H! Orton is outraged at being stopped from challenging for the title, but Ted and Cody calm him down, Cena stepping out of the ring, as the first commercial break comes in. Commercial Break.Christian, CM Punk , Kofi Kingston, and MVP DEF. Jack Swagger , Mark Henry, Kane, and Shelton Benjamin. | A great way to open up this fallout edition of Monday Night RAW, with a fun eight man tag team match featuring a lot of the men involved in the Money in the Bank ladder match the previous night. The action was back and forth, but eventually the faces got the edge, and with a brawl breaking out on the outside, CM Punk took advantage and the win hitting a distracted Shelton Benjamin with the Go 2 Sleep. |
The heels pull Benjamin out, and the faces celebrate in the ring together, having pulled out a monumentous win. Kane in particular looks pissed off with the loss, glaring at the Money in the Bank holder CM Punk, as a second break comes in. Commercial Break.RAW returns with John Cena walking backstage, approaching the locker room of Triple H. He goes to knock on the door, but Triple H opens up, saying that he doesn't need to talk tactics with Cena, but instead they need to just go out there, and do what they did last night - win! Cena agrees, telling Triple H he'll see him out in the ring, as the next contest of the night comes in. Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy and Mike Knox DEF. Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio , and Ricky Steamboat. | Another fun little six man tag team match here. There wasn't much ring time for Steamboat, though when he was in with Chris Jericho early on he was getting the better of him. The match saw Jeff isolated for a majority before making a hot tag to Rey Mysterio, who looked set to beat Mike Knox only for Chris Jericho to make a blind tag, and sneak in and nail a Codebreaker for the win. |
Matt Hardy, Jericho, and Knox all look pleased with the win, as Hall of Famer Steamboat and a beat up Jeff Hardy help the Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio to his feet. The heels proclaim to be better than thier rivals, the crowd boo'ing them as the commentators hype the first hour main event of Cryme Tyme battling The Miz and John Morrison next! Commercial Break.John Morrison and The Miz DEF. Cryme Tyme (JTG and Shad Gaspard) | Morrison and Miz were looking for some momentum here tonight after losing thier World Tag Team Championships to The Colon brothers last night at Wrestlemania. Cryme Tyme battled hard with lots of fan support as usual, but it wasn't enough to stop Miz and Morrison who took the win thanks to Morrison connecting with the Moonlight Drive on JTG. |
Miz and Morrison don't celebrate the victory, rather use the time to take microphones, and announce that everyone should check out ECW on SyFy tomorrow night, as they have a special edition of the Dirt Sheet dedicated to the WWE World Tag Team Champions, The Colons. The camera then goes backstage to William Regal who is stood with Vickie Guerrero and Theodore Long. The three talk about how next week is the WWE Draft, and hype how anybody could go anywhere! After this, a 'Don't try this at home' video plays featuring John Cena, before a commercial break comes in. Commercial Break.RAW returned with CM Punk walking down a hallway, and Josh Matthews trying to get an interview with him on his feelings about his back to back victories in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Before Punk gets the chance to answer, he is attacked by Kane, who tosses him at a wall, and chokeslams him through a buffet table. Kane then tells Punk that the briefcase he is holding is rightfully 'his' and that he intends to take it back! Goldust and Melina DEF. Glamarella (Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella) | A fun little tag team match here between two odd teams to say the least! Goldust and Melina worked well together, but it wasn't thier teamwork that proved to be the deciding factor, in fact it was a shocking slap from Phoenix to Marella that stunned the former Intercontinental Champion, and allowed Goldust to hit the Final Cut to take the victory for his team. |
After the contest, Phoenix walked away from the match looking incredibly angry with Marella for an unknown reason, as Melina and Goldust celebrated thier mixed tag team victory here on RAW. A commercial break began following this. Commercial Break.Backstage, the Legacy are seen in the office of William Regal, waiting for him to come back. Regal returns with a box of teabags, and asks the Legacy what they want. Orton answers, saying that he wants another shot at the WWE Championship. Regal says that he isn't the kind of man just to give out Championship shots anymore, but he will say that if the Legacy win tonight in the handicap match, Randy Orton can have a rematch in a match of his choice! Randy smiles, but his smile soon dissapears when Regal says that if he loses tonight, he will have no more chances at the WWE Championship so long as Triple H is champion! The cameras then return to the ring. RAW returns with the theme of Dolph Ziggler playing, and the cocky young superstar strutting out to the ring. He gets in the ring, and says it would be crazy if he wasn't drafted next week, as everybody knows that he is RAW's number one hot commidity, and that he will be the first man picked by either SmackDown! or ECW if they have any idea of who is good to have on thier brand, something he claims RAW does not! Ziggler then lays out an open challenge to anyone in the back who thinks they have a chance of beating him. However, he is very shocked when he sees who answers the challenge! Batista DEF. Dolph Ziggler | Ziggler was left in a state of shock when he saw that Batista had returned to answer his challenge, and unfortunately for Ziggler, he was in a no-nonsense mood! He made quick work of the young Superstar, finishing him with a huge Batista Bomb to pick up the victory! |
Batista celebrated the victory and his return with the fans, heading backstage as a commercial break came in, and the commentators hyped the Main Event up next! Commercial Break.John Cena and Triple H DEF. The Legacy in a Handicap Match. | A surprising ending to say the least here tonight! While it seemed like the Legacy were going to take the win for sure here tonight, it wasn't to be for them, and another shot at the WWE Championship just wasn't in the cards for Orton, as he was the one who was pinned tonight. The finish came when Orton setting up for the Punt Kick on John Cena, but then the theme of Batista played, the Animal making his way out to distract Orton! Orton was left prone to an attack, and Cena jumped up and took advantage, nailing the AA to take the big win! |
Cena quickly went to get his World Heavyweight Championship, and Triple H thanked him for his help here tonight, telling Orton that he could 'suck it', as he wasn't going to get another shot at the WWE Championship! Orton was left feeling enraged, Legacy not daring to approach him out of fear, as Batista smiled mockingly at Orton to close this edition of Monday Night RAW!

WWE RAW: Monday 6th April 2009...Decent promo to kick off the show with Randy Orton in the ring talking about the ordeal with Triple H the night prior. I'm not sure about him instantly changing his mind and wanting John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship though. Just thinking about it, woner if you're going to be starting WWE Superstars. That would be pretty radical if you changed the layout of that program. Looking forward to this packed main event. Solid eight man tag team match to kick off the show, you could improve the layout by recolouring the names of Jack Swagger, Christian, MVP, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger and Shelton Benjamin to the colour of their brands [Swagger = purple, etc]. Just to notify us of whose brand is on whose. Nice win for CM Punk in this, right decision as the Money in the Bank briefcase holder shows why he won Money in the Bank last night. Hm, another six-man tag team match is too much in my mind. Keep in mind this is the second match of the night, and this could easily be classed as first-hour main event. Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy and Mike Knox winning was the rightful decision. Jericho should have pinned Ricky Steamboat though, we all know that a rematch is coming up at Backlash. RAW could use some more segments in my mind. John Morrison and The Miz beating Cryme Tyme is good, as they need their WWE Tag Team Championships back. The Draft next week hopefully you retain the realistic nature of it. ECW on Sci-Fi didn't become ECW on SyFy until July, by the way. Kane after Punk's briefcase is cool. Goldust and Melina is an amusing team, good win against Glamarella. Wondering what's going on with Santina Marella and Beth Phoenix as well. Batista beating Dolph Ziggler is fine, looking forward to you actually building Ziggler up. He was barely anything here. Not sure if this was the right way to return Batista though, he was off from Armageddon to this point, you could and should have put something much more interesting him. Batista's only business is with Legacy after they took him out of action. John Cena beating the Legacy was expected, nice aftermath. It was a packed show overall, but it had no real structure to it. There was no first-hour main event, the matches were lacklustre and unimportant. In fact, I'd have only tuned in for the main event, and maybe Ricky Steamboat's match. You need to put a structure on: big opener, big first-hour main event, big second-hour beginning (sometimes) and big main event. Everything in between is better off looking weaker than those four hotspots.
