Right I imagine everyone is going to be routing for GSP to run through this guy so we get Anderson Vs GSP right?
Now I got in to MMA during Tito Vs Shamrock 1, after that I got hooked, and I have mainly been a UFC fan, only now an against catching fights else where if it has caught my interest.
There fore I don't know much about Jake Shields, he has the reputation of being a boring fighter, and I wasn't very interested in his UFC debut, I know he has a good record from his Strikeforce days. But I still don't know much about the guy. Is there much of a chance that we could Jake Shields ruin this potential match up between Silva and GSP? I mean you never know what's going to happen in MMA, but is he much of a threat?
Your guys thoughts?

He isn't a boring fighter, he just fights top-notch guys and beats them. He's only been finished once (and that was over 10 years ago) and he holds victories over top ranked and tough guys (Sakurai, Okami, Condit, Pyle, Daley, Lawler, Mayhem and Dan Henderson).
I think Shields has about a 30-40% chance of beating GSP. Maybe that's a little too high for some people, but I think he has the tools on the ground to submit GSP (who has been submitted before). The only issue here is Shields' standup. That's a huge hole in his game that he needs to work on with the people he trains with. I actually don't think he'll be able to take GSP down, but I think he may be able to sweep him if GSP decides to take him down. Wishful thinking though. I'm predicting GSP will beat him.

I'm not saying he is a boring fighter by the way, that's what the reputation his gotten from what I have been reading in the past, and yea he does have an impressive record, but people say he is a boring fighter, which in his UFC debut I didn't have much ground to argue with on that. Any fights you can recommend what are a good watch of his?
Well hopefully GSP runs through this guy. Glad to know there is a good chance of it.

He had a tough cut going to 170lbs because he had been already fighting at 185 in Strikeforce. He has never ran out of gas like that before, so hopefully next time he'll be more prepared for the weight cut.

Oh right, that would explain it, even the commentators mentioned that he pretty much looked like crapcompared to normal.

I'm a huge fan of Shields. He has fought & beaten some great fighters. Currently riding a hell of an unbeaten run & I don't see GSP stopping that. Shields is seriously going to derail all this talk of GSP/ Anderson.

Jake Shields has great wrestling, a good ground game, but hideous stand up. He usually takes guys right down in fights and looks for a submission or to keep them there. GSP should beat Shields, provided he can stop the takedown, which I think he can. Hughes couldn't take him down in the 2nd and third fights & Fitch I think did it once in a 5 round fight but GSP wasn't on his back long. His last few fights have been dull has hell, so thats where those comments come from. The most exciting thing in his past few fights is when Dan Henderson knocked his head off in the first round but Shields surving.

GSP has great takedown defense, he's a smart fighter and from checking Shields out a bit more and going off what people are saying, I can see GSP gameplanning and fighting smart to exploit Jakes weaknesses and win.

I think Shields is quite good, but not up there with some of the sport's best due to not being overly well-rounded...GSP should be fine, but anything can happen.

...I think Shields will be the most hated man in MMA if he pulls off the upset and ruins the GSP Vs Silva Super-fight. He won't though...
