Definitely agree with you XZEЯOX. It's a continuing issue as I keep reading how some people didn't get the Defining Moment Savage because they were just gonna get the series 5 version. Had that one been held until series 8 I bet it'd be a lot harder to find a store with the DM Savage. Same deal with the DM Warrior and his upcoming series 6 fig. Giving collectors - a notoriously impatient lot - such quick turnaround on other options doesn't seem like the best gameplan. That's why the two-packs didn't sell.

Just watched the last two videos....
I agree Tom, they NEED to do a Christian Rumbler with his hand above his eyes. And the Undertaker being in Batman joke cracked me up.
Thanks for the photos & videos guys, they were greatly appreciated. And Mattel did a great job on the new figures. Chances are my wife may try to kill me cause I see a lot I plan on buying.

I have to say that I was impressed with Mattel this year. I am not the biggest fan of many of the mattel head scans, but they are getting better every series. I appreciate the guy answering all of the questions with honesty as well. Jakks really let me down, not only b/c I collect RI but because there was no excitment from the Jakks rep. He was like "whatever" while this mattel guy was so excited to be working for us to deliver the best. From a business standpoint, I understand the scaling back on legends consdiering that many collectors did not want to buy the same superstar over again, even with different attire. Also, I think the price point hurt the Legends a bit, as the Mattel rep said, it was too many to collect on the market at one time (IE basic, elite, legends, etc.) I like that DM replaced EG, although I was hoping for more basic legends with the EG. I love the current superstars though, and I think we finally got a great Big Show scan. MOST OF ALL...I have been waiting for Kerry and Kevin for years! Thank you Mattel as I can't wait to have one of my fav matches of all time recreated Kerry vs. Kamala! I would like to have seen One Man Gang as opposed to Akeem, but I understand Akeem and I think we'll get OMG eventually with a chain and denim vest. Also, they heard our cry for Steamboat and Savage and have delivered over the last year big time! I have just a few mattels such as Kamala and Road Warriors, but 2011 will see me purchase at least 15 of the stars presented at Toy Fair!

Awesome interviews - major props to Mattel for being so forward and honest with their answers. It was very refreshing to hear a company address concerns and deliver some "difficult truths" instead of just spouting a bunch of "rah rah" propaganda and saying "YES WE'RE DOING IT - YOU WILL GET IT!" to every question. Reading some of these comments, I guess that what some people were expecting...
Re: "Strategic" Legends - Please don't completely bail on doing some of the more obscure guys. I understand they're not a boon for retail sales, but collectors love some obscure Legends. Maybe we could get some "Deep Cuts" via Matty? Maybe one every couple of lines, as the least-packed figure? Just don't give up on them completely.
I'm all for reducing the number of figures. When the line started, my mission was to collect one of each of the roster in Elite. By the time Legends launched, I was behind on Elites and my wallet couldn't keep up. Positive change, I say.
PLEASE release those Rockers, even as singles in a wave. They're too awesome. Whether I get them in two blister packs or bundled doesn't matter to me - I open and display them.
Awesome job to everyone involved. WWE, despite what you think of the product, is an amazing business and they finally have a toy company they deserve.

Mattel have done a great job with Legends, but man, they really shot themselves in the foot with the 2-packs. The figures themselves weren't the problem, is was the line-ups. Bushwackers? Okay, not a bad way to start. They're not exactly the Road Warriors but they were a memorable team who look cool in figure form. Piper/Orton? Here's where the problem begins. The main thing here is Piper - we JUST got a Piper in Entrance Greats, and while it was a Basic, it's largely seen as the better figure. Piper also had a ton of CS figures before this one. And pack him with Bob Orton at the $30 pricepoint and it becomes a tough sell. How many people are going to spend over $50 to get both EG Piper and this 2-pack? Not many, and Bob Orton alone probably won't sell the set to most. Sheik/Volkoff? Not bad, but again - they just released a Sheik in Legends, and Sheik had a bunch of figures in CS already. The average person is only going to buy one of each wrestler, with exceptions made for their favorites. The problem is when we're talking about Legends, we're talking about mainly appealing to older collectors. And then we're talking about personal favorites, that shrinks the market down even more. It would have been better to wait 2-3 years and do a new Sheik in tights, that way those who missed the one from "back in 2010" had a chance to get him again, and maybe people who already bought him would be more likely to get a new figure of him since they've already had the old one for so long. But that critique aside, Bill, thank you for your honesty and for actually answering our questions. I appreciated the insight on how WWE communicates with Mattel. Pity that they told you guys to hold off on DX (New Age Outlaws!), but at least we now know that it's not you guys, it's them. I loved the statement about certain companies "not caring anymore" once simple stuff like skintone variation becomes a regular problem. Great to hear Bret is finally signed, and that Vince is coming soon. Interesting to hear about a possible 'build-a-figure'. That sounds perfect for a camera man or ref. I agree 100%. Legends 2 packs series 1 line up was very weak. We wouldn't be discussing the the end of Legends 2 packs if LOD and Demolition had not been single figures and in Legends two packs with Bushwhackers. The Legends 2-pack was a great idea in concept, maybe the price point was a bit high - yes it's two figures, but one would assume that you'd be getting some sort of "deal" buying a package - I don't think a MSRP of $26.99 would have killed them considering less detail and accessories are included.
I still maintain that the series should have folded out like this:
1. Headliner team (LOD, Demolition, Bulldogs, Rockers, Hart Foundation, and the list goes on) 2. Combo pairing (Piper/Orton, Savage/Steamboat, Rock/Austin, Lawler/Kauffman etc.) 3. Filler/Obscure teams (Bushwackers, Volkoff/Sheik, Killer Bees, etc.)
Release that line-up 2-3 times a year and I'm sure sales would have been different.
but it is what it is, so now the precious 4 spots per Legends series might be taken up by a tag team figure, or a diva legend, or one of those "strategic" money makers. Eventually after a few years we'll get our obscure figures, I hope!

I didn't watch all 40 min of Q&A since I'm not a huge Mattel fan but I do buy a few WWE figs to use on Jakks bodies. From reading this thread, I've gathered that the Legends 2 packs were cancelled. Did they say what will happen to figures like the Von Erichs that they showed? I definitely want those. And WWE told Mattel to stay away from DX? Any reason given? That seems really strange.

The Von Erichs are being released as singles in Legends series 6. The guy mumbled something about Michaels and Triple H winding down their careers and wanting to get away from just doing DX stuff, but the answer didn't really seem relevant to the X-Pac/Outlaws era DX. I think the reason maybe that WWE wants DX to be associated with just Michaels and Triple H now.

Why doesnt Tim get a damn set of Lav's instead of that stupid heh mic. You dont need a stick mic do run an interview. They arent expensive either and lets the speaker have his personal space as well. I have extensive Television and AV experience and sure a handheld is used sometimes but the speaker should have his own mic.

I think that's the only critique I have about RSC interviews. Tim's usually so excited and wants to get a word in that he pulls the mic away from the interviewee which I think disrupts the whole flow. The stick mic is very bob barkerish especially in this day and age.

Tim does get a bit too excited and cuts his subjects off a lot, which seems to defeat the purpose of the interviews if he talks just as much as the people he interviews.

Best line of any wrestling figure interview ever. "We are going to be talking to Stephanie and see what she has to say about it, if she wants to be done, we'll do her." You are a wild man Bill.

Great Mattel interview. They should keep the 2packs & sell them as exclusive at RSC & Matty Collector (Nasty Boys, Rockers, LOD, Harts, smoking Guns, New Age Outlaws, Rougeaux). Legends in Elite line could be Legends who are seen on tv several times a year such as Lawler, Diesel, Booker T, Taker, HHH, Piper. Their could be one 'big' name in each series, like series 5 with Savage (Martel, Akeem, Bigelow) & not like series 1 with Austin, Steamboat, Warriors & Rhodes (Sgt.). I am happy they cut 6 to 4 figures, saves me money. Entrance Greats was good but Defining Moments should replace it, keeping the golden base instead of the big one with music. Older Legends from before 80's would be great! (Gorgeous George, Thesz, Rogers, Inoki). I don't think they could make Liger & Muta (could be wrong) because Jakks has NJPW contract. Can't wait for Chamber! another idea for Legends make 1/3000 or something every 3 months (4 a year) on RSC or Matty so we can get a lot of Legends within the next 5 or so years when their contract whines down.
