OK now Mattel told us the reason for no stands anymore was because cost of making them went up or w/e. Something went up with them. Now they said if they take the stands out they can eliminate that cost and it won't cause them to go up in price, yet every store has raised them a dollar or 2. So why the hell can't we get the stands back since they raised prices anyway.

I guess it's not the small piece of plastic the stand is, but the putting it in the box, which might have been done by a worker, whom has to be paid. With increasing prices even where they're producing, it's no wonder that they increased it in the States. Please keep in mind that we in europe pay €14,99 for a regular Basic figure if they're not on sale, which is nearly $20.

If prices raise in JUST the production aspect (like they said it did), and they eliminated the stands, and changed the packaging to keep the price point low.... don't you think them keeping the stands would have, oh I don't know, made them even more expensive?
And besides, they said we'll get stands offered on MattyCollector.com soon enough anyway.

Perhaps the stores have costs related to shipping that have gone up and have raised their prices all over as a result. We only notice the impact on things we buy. Maybe other companies have raised their price to supply TRU with merchandise and instead of a large increase only on those items, they have added small increases across the store.
For example, I manage a pizza restaurant and 2 or 3 years ago, the cost of cheese increased by 5 dollars a case. Instead of making an Extra Cheese option cost more or cutting back on the amount of cheese we use on each pizza, we raised our prices for every pizza and topping about $1.00...Even if someone got a Pepperoni pizza with no cheese, it cost them the extra that was added in to cushion the new cost of cheese.
It's all about a balance for each retailer. Maybe if they had included the stands, the price would have gone up even more?

They also said that the stands didn't compensate for cost necessarily. But instead compensated for detail. So they were saying if we eliminate stands, we can afford to include more detail for your figures.

Mattel removed the bases to keep production costs the same so they can keep the details as good as they've been. That has nothing to do with the stores raised the prices. They are raising the prices to run their operations and keep profits. Stores still need to deal with their bills & rising payroll.

I'm fine with them removing the stands, but if they want to further cut cost, why not shrink the packaging altogether (especially on DM and Elite figs)?

However you want to spin it, it's a lose lose situation for us. Prices are higher and we don't get stands. Not cool. They got us by the balls because the figures are so amazing and we're gonna buy them no matter what. With the Legends series getting cut and prices going up. I for one am not happy with Mattel right now. But as soon as they make a figure I want I'm gonna mark out. The whole thing has gotten very weird.

See, Mattel can afford to make some changes that benefit them, because they've been so great to us already, and continue to do so. Jakks could never make these changes without EVERYONE ridiculing them, because they were leavin' us out to dry ALL THE TIME!!!

Because the stands were made in incredibly large numbers the cost per piece would be incredibly low. In comparison each figure in a line might share molds but the parts are made especially for that figure. All those parts per series means the production costs per series is high. The costs most likely exceeded the amount saved by doing away with the stands so the price per figure went up.
