I've recently discovered the benefits of meditation, it really relaxes me and just makes my day more pleasant in general. I am just beginning meditating, and I would also like to work yoga into my life, in order to improve my health further. I was wondering if any of you here meditate or practice yoga, and if so where did you begin? Any tips that may be helpful (especially as it pertains to meditation techniques)? Success stories?

Read "Practicing Peace in Times of War" by Pema Chodron. It's not long and it's very easy to read.

i'll often sit and read krishnamurti's writings for the calming it brings. i'll have the odd bath just for the overall 'cleansing' experience and use different salts etc. i put aside at least an hour of my day to read, which i'd consider quite meditating haha.
in the summer, i'll often swim for hours in the lake.
i haven't ventured into yoga, but it also interests me.

I started meditation a year ago. I don't really have a set idea of how I do it, it really depends situationally. I've gotten to the point where I can finally slow my breathing to the point where my body is at rest but I'm not asleep but slipping in and out.(when I started to try that, I think I use to just fall asleep places all the time till i got it down).
I dont think there is a set way to meditate, it is all according to the person needs at the time and how they view themselves. I never took an interest in yoga but thats cool lol.
Hope you keep it up, its definitely helped me to be at peace.
My favorite is meditating outdoors if you can find a nice quiet spot for it. otherwise I throw in headphones and sounds of nature or something to that extent.

i have a lot of sleeping problems and i've started using meditation to try and put me to sleep. generally it has worked wonders and i've been having the deepest sleeps of my life lately.
