I've seen good discussions here about cell phones, mostly Dr. Hulk defending Android phones and expressing his dislike for iPhones.
Well, I guess I come in a minority here, since what I like, and own, is a BlackBerry. I've tried iPhones (since first generation up to the 4G) and I liked them, but I sincerely liked more what BlackBerry had to offer.
I remember when I first heard about the Android OS, it sounded interesting, probably I was going to get one if they were cool. I tried one a few months ago (not sure which model, just remember it was an HTC). So here comes the surprise for me: Many members here, as far as I know, have a contract with Verizon Wireless, which again, as far as I know, uses the CDMA technology. There's another company: AT&T, which is a big one in the US, but as far as I know, Verizon is bigger on the cell phone industry. So, looking for a new cell phone here in Mexico, I see a commercial. "New Motorola Droid X, get yours now". I was looking for it, since it looked cool, unlike the other Motorola phones I had seen with Android. Well, again, I got surprised, as the main company here "Telcel" is somewhat like AT&T in the US, with GSM, and there's the other "Iusacell" with CDMA, like Verizon. I notice that Iusacell is the company that has most cool looking, interesting Android phones, but almost nobody has contract with that company, since many think it is expensive.
I once thought about moving to Iusacell, but I wasn't sure if the CDMA is a good technology, and if an Android phones are that good, and well, since I like BlackBerry and I can get that with my current company Telcel, I stayed.
So, are you with your carrier just because of the phone you can choose? Or because of the services and prices you are given?

I'm with VZW because I was with ATT originally and they flat out lied to me, then admitted to my face that they lied to me (I'm sorry, but our rep wasn't supposed to tell you you could have that phone for that price. I know they did and it's documented here, but they weren't supposed to say that.) then refused to make it right.

I'm with T-Mobile, since all of my family uses it. The service is pretty reliable here, and I've been lucky enough to never really have any serious issues with the phones they've provided.
I really don't care much about phone types. I currently have the old G-1 that I got when I opened up the account in my name. The phone came with a pricier (but fair) plan, but I put it all to good use. I've never been the type to fork over $250+ for the latest popular phones. I love the way they all look, but I can't justify paying that much money for a phone.
I believe I'm eligible for an upgrade soon though. Possibly in the next 3-4 months. I have no idea what route I'll go. The good thing is that I've taken pretty damn good care of my G-1. It has minimal body damage, and works perfectly fine. It'll make for a great emergency back-up.

I'm with Verizon Wireless for a few reasons...
In the Central Maine area, you really have three choices - Verizon, U.S. Cellular, and T-Mobile. AT&T is available, but the service is awful and if you want a local store you have to drive forty-five minutes. I don't know anyone who has AT&T around here for any reason other than having an iPhone, and most are now switching to Verizon.
My entire family was originally on U.S. Cellular. We found the service to be pretty sub-par and our bill was changing every month. The local offices couldn't explain it, and corporate wouldn't budge. We weren't going over our minutes, nothing was happening other than them charging a fluctuating service charge each month. On a month to month basis, our bill may be $50 - $60 higher for no reason at all, and they forced us to pay it each time.
I was with them until late '08 when my contract expired, at which point my dad got moved to a company plan through U.S. Cellular, so that left just my mom and I.
We shopped around and landed on Verizon. Partially because of the phone selection and partially because I knew their network was superior to all others.
We've had no complaints since going there. A lot of people find them to be pricier than other carriers, but to be honest, even with my internet plan our bill is often times still under what the outrageous U.S. Cellular bill would come in at. Not to mention it's only off by pennies each month, not several dollars.
I'm incredibly happy with the service and the phone selection, it would take a lot for me to switch.

I'm on the verizon family plan. I have a droid x. I really wanted an iphone, but since I'm getting an ipad, Ill just stick with android. I personally think it makes for a better mobile expierence than ios. Only thing I prefer would be the music player on the iphone. I will be getting the droid bionic when it comes out to replace my X.

Have you tried PowerAmp? To me it's the shiznit. Has a built in equalizer and everything. Love it.

Honestly I carry no personal cell. I have a cheap vzw prepay but I dont even take it with me unless im leaving and no one except my family knows the number and its only emercency. I think life is simpler with a home phone and no cell. All I see is people with their cell phones in their faces anymore when im out, it truly sickens me a little that so many are so attached to little devices....oh well haha. I will admit though, when I did go through phase of "loving my phone" back a bit ago, I enjoyed the blackberry....but it was before the storm and 3g/4g/whatever else g....haha
