You know i was watching summerslam 98 and during the rock and hhh ladder match for the ic belt i was thinking. Do any of you guys find strange that the rock became champion before hhh did? hhh during that time was over with the crowd and he has been since 95. The rock came in 96 and I recall he was getting booed big time during his original run.

No, because I believe the Rock deserved it more and despite his early face run getting booed, fans started liking him again once he turned to the Nation.
Also, Triple H has not been over with the fans since 1995; at the earliest, I'd say late 97 when DX was first starting to become big with Hunter, Shawn, Chyna & Rick Rude as a legit, cutting-edge faction at the time. The snobbish Hunter Hearst Helmsley never really took off until his feud with Mankind around Summerslam 97, and even then, it wasn't like fans were jumping out of their seats for him; it was just the typical "oh, he's beating up someone we like so let's boo him" response.

I actually do find it kind of peculiar that HHH won the title as late as he did compared to The Rock, but I suppose they had that program w/ the Rock and Mankind and it was just hot so it worked.

Don't forget the Triple H took the heat for the MSG Kliq incident where Hall & Nash came out and celebrated with Triple H & HBK right before they left for WCW. HBK was too big a star for McMahon to penalize him so Hunter took it all.

Helmsley was also supposed to win King of the Ring before the MSG Curtain Call incident. That spot then went Austin, who first spoke the words "Austin 3:16" during a promo during the PPV.

Triple H was held down in 1996 for the curtain call not 1998 onwards. When Rock won the title at Survivor Series 1998 wasnt HHH suffering from a long term knee injury at the time?

When the heel (rock) gets the title before the face (hhh) it pushes the face more and gets him over with the crowd
