I dont know how many knew about this, but I didnt until I came across it on youtube searching through WCW debuts. The description of the video says
"Edge debuted before 1998. In 1996, Adam Copeland was hired as a jobber for a match against Meng and went by the name Damon Striker. WCW considered hiring him but he quickly left because he thought it was the worst gimmick ever."
Is that true? He was gonna go to WCW but ditched after the crappy gimmick?

That's a good find, I couldn't believe he was in WCW even at all. Very interesting.

It is not true. Edge did not ditch WCW due to a crappy gimmick. He was already being looked at WWE. He decided to pursue WWE, as that was his life long dream. He even consulted with Bret Hart and Bret helped sell him on WWE.
