We have all witnessed lots of HUGE and major news whether it be just heel or face turns or deaths or maybe even firings. But what I kept thinking to myself was: What is the biggest Wrestling News that struck the IWC very hard?
I think mine has to be either when Kurt Angle got released from WWE or when the Chris Benoit Tragedy happened. So what are your guys' opinion on the "Biggest News In Wrestling History"?

Doesn't really get bigger than WWE purchasing WCW.
Storyline-wise is a little tougher. I'd say probably Hogan turning Heel at Bash at the Beach 96.

I don't think anything can realistically top the Chris Benoit situation. It transcended the boundaries of the business itself and launched into not only a media frenzy, but a worldwide debate.

In terms of negative wrestling news, the Benoit tragedy is the biggest. But in terms of positive wrestling news, WWE buying out WCW would be the biggest.

In terms of wrestling news that was so big that the mainstream, non-wrestling media picked it up and society (not just wrestling fans) became engrossed in the story, it has to the the Benoit double-murder suicide, unfortunately.

There are 3 correct answers in no particular order: Chris Benoit, WCW goes out of business, Vince steroid trial (easilly could have put the company out of business)
Owen and Eddie were also huge stories but didn't have as much media attention or long term effects on the business as the top 3 I listed.
