Ability wise, they were both great, but Bret did have a size advantage and a better look. That was probably a factor in his bigger and longer push.

Bret by far. Owen's death was a tragedy but has made a lot of fans forget that Owen was never more than a talented midcarder. Bret had the ability in the ring and could work with anyone, he had great charisma and was able to pull fans into his matches and his mic skills whilst not the best were fine. As for Owen, anyone else remember him tripping over his words in that boring monotone voice in the KOTR coronation speach? He was freaking terrible. Obviously in the ring he was great but I always preferred watching Bret's more mat based style myself.

Bret is better but Owen was great aswell.
