I think I may be in the minority here but I stopped watching wrestling in the early 90s and I am a huge fan of the Hulkamania era right up to about Wrestlemania 7 or around when Undertaker first started wrestling in the wwf. I was wondering which era the majority of fans here identify with and which era Mattel should focus on to keep the Legends line going strong. I for one had no interest in the jakks line years ago but as soon as I saw the Mattel Ricky Steamboat figure at toy fair I have been hooked and have been collecting almost every Legends figure that Mattel has put out. I have seen some dislike on the forums for such characters from the 80s and I would like to hear what era everyone thinks Mattel should focus on. Obviously most fans would like to see all eras represented to have a nice overall collection but mainly where does your interest lie?

Personally I love the 80's, but I'd be happy with anyone released from between 1975- 1994

I would love if they focused on the 80s and 90s. As much as I like the Hulkimania era there is a lot of desirable figures from the attitude era as well.

I would like them focus more on 1994-1996 since it was the time between when Hasbro left and Jakks began. I also wouldn't mind them making more figures of the wrestlers that LJN and Hasbro missed when they were producing figures and some of the wrestlers that haven't been made since they had a figure from Hasbro or LJN.

Honestly, I would like anything from Early 80s to Late 90s.
I'd like to see all the Remco, LJN, Hasbro, and early Jakks figures made in figure form by Mattel (not realistic but my wish).
Although it looks like the late 80s/early 90s era are selling better than early/mid 80s (over here), I think Mattel should have a mixed series line-up similar to their DCUC line.
They should have a different wrestler from different eras in each line with an A-List headliner, a couple B-List wrestlers, and a C-List wrestler (maybe short-packed?).
Each line-up can rotate eras so that not every series is the same era combination.

Looking at it from the general market point of view (i.e. thinking about ALL their customers, NOT just my own personal wants):
They need to include a mix of eras in the line, but the most focus should without-a-doubt be on the two most popular times in wrestling - the mid-80s to early-90s era, and the monday night wars era (1995-2001). anyone who disagrees with focusing on those eras is just thinking of their own personal wishlist and not the bigger picture/general market for the line in my opinion.
select superstars from other eras, such as the early 80s, 70s, and even before should be included too, but should not be the main focus as wrestling wasn't as popular/recognised (in a national sense i mean) as the two boom periods. same with the "WWE era" (2002-present day), select superstars should be included, but again they shouldn't be the main focus.
mattel also need to think about superstars who made their name in other promotions, especially considering WWE owns the rights to most of them now. WCW is an absolute must considering it was the 1st/2nd (depending on the era) most popular national wrestling show during the two boom periods. guys from ECW, NWA, AWA, WCCW, etc should also be considered.
finally mattel need to consider the Jakks Classic Superstars series, as if Jakks made certain superstars/looks in the series, the demand for a legends figure of that superstar will decrease with some collectors.
What I'd really like to see is for Mattel to put together a MASSIVE survey of superstar names, so they can get an idea of who the collectors want and how much they are wanted. they should do a superstar-name-gathering here at WF first though, to make sure no superstar is missed from the survey.
---------------------
As for my personal opinion on this subject, I'm a fan of the monday night wars era (1995-2001) and mainly WCW/nWo. I'd like to see mattel make plenty of legends from WCW/nWo, especially guys who Jakks never made in CS or who Jakks made badly.

thankfully for us WCW fans, mattel already confirmed that WCW superstars will definetely be included in the Legends line.
i can't find the exact quote, but i remember the mattel guy saying something like "our intention with the legends line is to celebrate the history of WWE, and WCW is definetely a part of that history"
thats one positive thing about WCW being bought by WWE, that we can see modern figures celebrating the history of WCW.

This for me as well. Pretty much anything from 85 to 01 seems ideal because outside of that you are getting into unrecognizable territory for a ton of fans. Not saying they shouldn't mix those in, but certainly not to the degree of the 80s and 90s. I was a big WCW fan as well so I would love to see that era captured in figure form. I feel like a lot of the guys I want from WCW though either won't be made or can't be made right now. Raven stands out, but I would love WCW versions of guys like Jericho, Kidman from the Flock or TFA, DDP, 99 Macho Man, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall etc which all seem plenty feasible. 97 HBK is my most wanted right now so regardless if we see a ton from that era I want that HBK the most. I would like to see Bret Hart, Triple H, the Outlaws, Kane, and Taker from around that time as well. Razor, Diesel, HBK, and Triple H standout from 95-96 as well to be made. Possibly in a Curtain Call boxset. How much do you love us Mattel??? Show us the love...

If Mattel gave us a good handful of WCW and ECW figures, they would have me hooked on the legends figs for good. But Mattel, Announce The Uso's and a Primo for the Elite line so I can start collecting them!

I say every era, however for now they should focus on the biggest names in wrestling i.e. the LEGENDS. Every era has legends and mega stars. Once the line is more stable have a series that focuses on a single promotion or era, but for now stick to the biggest names.

its a shame that Mattel doesn't have the rights to do a hogan figure, I think this line would have exploded if they had Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat and maybe Andre in series one, with the two packs released simultaneously with demoliton, the Rockers and volkoff and Sheik as series 1 and a few months later had the hart foundation, LOD for series 2 with maybe Piper and Orton. Obviously it wasn't logistically possible and this is only my opinion but I think that would really have started this line off well and grabbed a ton of fans early on. I am not complaining I am glad we are getting such good figures, I haven't bought a wrestling figure since the late 80s with LJN so I just hope they make another 20 waves or so, that way I can get just about everyone I want.
