Good question. He was physically massive, very talented, and by his WWF run around '96, a veteran. Would've made sense to give the strap. Perhaps backstage politics?

Vader was screwed out of the WWF title, at SummerSlam 96. fallenhero will tell you the full story as you can see his face go into shock as the match restarts, because he thought he had won. Also, he was too good for the IC title. A guy that was hyped as much as him wouldn't be chasing the second tier belt.

Probably because guys like Bret, Undertaker, and HBK saw him as being too much of a threat to what they had. Considering Vader had held both the IWGP and World Heavyweight championship 3 times before going to WWF, he didn't necessarily need the WWF also.

Vader was scheduled for an I-C run but Ahmed got injured which messed up that future program.
Michaels politicked himself not losing the WWF title to Vader.

Probably because guys like Bret, Undertaker, and HBK saw him as being too much of a threat to what they had. Considering Vader had held both the IWGP and World Heavyweight championship 3 times before going to WWF, he didn't necessarily need the WWF also. True. But I still think he should have gotten a World title run. Its a damn shame if you ask me. |

Wow I hear that Vader ona shoot interview said he was supposed to win the belt at Summerslam. I'm hearing something like a incident in kuwait causing WWF to punish him.

lol, I love watching HBK matches from his first WWF title reign. He was playing the super babyface to all the little kids... and throwing vulgarity laiden mini-tantrums during his matches when his opponents botched spots. He totally thought he was untouchable.
I gotta get ahold of that new HBK dvd to get some of the stories from back then.

Yes I think he deserved to hold the title for that long but he should have atleast gave Vader a 2month reign and then came back and won it in a squash. It is a shame that a man that could literally beat the crap out of shawn Michaels never beat him for the title. I like Vader he is in my top 25 mainly because he is legittimately tough. For peatsake he got hit in the head so hard his eye popped out and he popped it back in himself and finished the match, that man is dedicated. |

Reason Vader never get the WWF title was cos SS 96 drew a poor buy rate which the company blamed Vader for even though on house shows building to the PPV HBK was winning a clean finish everytime so Sid got the nod at SVS 96 instead of Vader again.
For the IC title, he got arrested aboard & by the time he got back Vince said he couldn't do the angle he wanted to.

If memory serves my correctly, Vader was supposed to get the strap at SS '96, but plans changed. Then he was scheduled to win the belt at the 1996 Survivor Series. However Sid got the nod for the belt. I always thought that Vader should've won the IC belt during the summer of 1996 to make an even bigger build-up for his match against HBK at SummerSlam '96, seeing as how Ahmed was injured.

I think it was mainly because Shawn and others had too much backstage pull and say on the matter and they were against Vader getting a run with the belt. I know myself, I would've liked to have seen Big Van Vader with the W.W.F. title for sure.
He made a great W.C.W. World champ while he was there. It's just too bad he never got the chance to be W.W.F. champ. Some things just aren't meant to be, I suppose.

I only know Vader from his WWF days sadly, i really should download some matches. He was an awesome talent for a man of his size and I would have loved to see him with the WWF title for a while.
