(From an ESPN Podcast preview):
Grizzled MMA veteran Randy Couture, one of the godfathers of the sport, is looking on his contest with Lyoto Machida “as his last fight”. Couture revealed that he has called out Machida, due to his unique style. “He’s been like a Rubik’s Cube for other fighters to try and unlock,” said the 47-year-old, who continues to defy his age.
“I’ve said before that I would be having my last fight, that I would be retiring, but I really am getting tired of grinding it out and I need to relax a little more. Plus, I have a few projects in the pipeline, a few more movies, the clothing brand, the development of the gym…”
So, no Fedor Emelianenko fight now that the UFC had signed Strikeforce ? “You’d think it might be possible with the merger, but I’m done with chasing that fight…” Couture has always been one of the most lucid thinkers on the development of the sport, and he believes judging should also be improved.

Fedor isn't with the UFC. Won't fight in the UFC, either.

I honestly believe he is done, so long as the Fedor fight never happens. If some how it gets worked out Randy would came back for it and it alone.

He's tired of training. He loves to fight, not training. I think he would fight Fedor if the UFC could somehow get him before he's 50.

If he truly is done, then I'm at a loss to say enough great things about him...though seeing him up against Fedor would seemingly be too good to be true...

Win or lose, he's always been one of my top favs. I hope to see him pull out a decisive win against Machida and go out with a W. Although he'll be retiring, he won't be gone from the sport. I see him around until the day he dies.

Seems we're loosing some great fighters, some of the best. It's such a shame. Fedor (I think his times almost up) and Randy are amazing fighters, but it's amazing to think and see that the quality of fighter that's coming in to the sport as the years advance are becoming better and growing and evolving in to something new and awesome.
It's great to have memories of these legends, but even with them leaving it's not going to leave a hole in the sport due to all these new evolution of fighters coming through, especially since the newer younger guys start of training as a MMA fighter not a wrestler or soley something else.
It's such a shame to loose a guy like Randy, but I can stay happy in the thoughts of the sports just going to get more advanced and better.

Yeah, well said.
I was thinking the other day (uh-oh...) - with Randy retiring soon and Cro-Cop at the end of his career, why don't the two fight each other in their "official" last fight? They're two legends of the sport and have never faced each other - I think it would be a fitting end to their careers...

Calling it now, Randy wins. But yea it would be a good way to end it, and I'm sure the UFC could market it well.

If Dana offered him another fight that interested him and the money is right, he'll fight again. Just my opinion.

I think Randy is telling the truth this time...the only two fights I see him taking are against Fedor and and one last shot at the lhw title.

I wonder whether the UFC could send him to StrikeForce to fight Fedor? I'm not sure what the legal wranglings are, but I would have thought it's a possability - especially if the Fedor/Henderson fight falls through...

A rule of being an MMA fan: Don't get your hopes up for any fight involving Fedor, his management sucks.
