Ok this has annoyed me for like 10 years...Why was the top of the belt bent?? How did it happen? I know it was bent when Flair had it in WWF and then if you watch Starrcade 92 its bent when Chono hands it over to the ref...Anyone know how it got bent?

I believe it happened at GAB 89 when Muta used the belt as weapon against Flair.

I thought I was the only one who'd wondered this all these years.
I'm not alone, yay!

I remember it being bent when Bret Hart won it in 1998-1999 and I always wondered as well...
There are a bunch of pictures under Bret Hart's profile at the OWW website. For some reason, it is not allowing me to link to the site.

The belt Bret held in 99 was indeed the same Big Gold that debuted back in 1986. Anyone ever notice that the top of the title was REALLY bent down in 2000 when Ric Flair held it?

I do think it was bent from 89-01 when WCW closed..
I remember at the Hogan screwjob they made a point to say the belt Booker won had the bend in the top....
Just a part of the belt I guess

well correction. Watching the Bash at the Beach 94, the belt was straight. So from like 89-92(93ish) it was bent and then in July of 94 it was straight and then 5-6 years later it was bent again?? Maybe Hogan had his own version that he only used?

Yeah, I thought the belt was used as a weapon, making it dented. Here's what I've heard:
The belt presented to Ric Flair in 1985-86 was crafted by a silversmith in Charlotte, NC. At the time, Jim Crockett Promotions exclusively used that craftsman to make nameplates (i.e. Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes). But it was too pricy, so Crockett stopped putting nameplates on the belts, except for Flair's.
When Jim Crockett sold his share of the NWA to Turner (the company that became WCW), the belt went with the promotion. Rather than using the same craftsman to fix the World Title, WCW used a different, more affordable one. What you see (dented/flat plates) is the result of bad reinforcement of the plates to the leather strap.
WCW did make a new belt, when Diamond Dallas Page was champion in 2000. But it went with Hulk Hogan during that "work/shoot" angle at Bash at the Beach 2000, and was replaced by the original. Hogan still "owns" the belt.
When Booker T joined WWE in 2001, a third and final belt was made. It was used during the "Invasion" angle, was part of the Undisputed Championship and awarded to Triple H as Raw's first World Champion. It was his belt, until WWE asked Joe "J-Mar" Marshall to make the belt that you see on SmackDown (with the WWE logo on top).

A better question is why did wcw use the BIGGER title as the international title or w/e it was called and a wayyy SMALLER title for the heavyweight champion lol

Because the smaller belt was made in 1991 for the WCW title after Flair took off with the NWA belt to the WWF. In 1992 when the belt was recovered by WCW the NWA title was used in conjunction with NJPW. After Barry Windham won the NWA title from the Great Muta the connection with NJPW was dropped. Ric Flair eventually beat Windham for the title in July of 93.
Flair was supposed to drop the NWA world title to Rick Rude at Fall Brawl 1993, but NWA promoters balked at the title switch and WCW pulled out from the NWA one last time. With no NWA title on the line at Fall Brawl 93 they just called it the world title and for a short time just the big gold belt. Right before Halloween Havoc 1993 WCW created a storyline for the belt called WCW International. Saying now that Rick Rude was regconized as WCW International World Champion. This storyline would last until 4/1994 (Clash 27) when the WCW and WCWI World titles were unified in a match with Sting and Ric Flair which Ric Flair won. Afterwards the 1991-1994 WCW title belt was dropped in favor of the orignal Big Gold NWA/WCW title belt.
Hope that answers your question, Hitman.
