I did not see this coming when I tuned into Raw tonight. It's sad, but he's had an incredible run. Now I just hope he gets better. Not too shabby to retire as the World Heavyweight Champion though.
To one of the best!

I am in shock still. I did not expect for him to end his career just yet and neither did he.
I was expecting at least 1 or 2 more years at least. I am glad though he found out before it was too late.
Hopefully he'll stick around in the WWE doing something other than wrestling.
Smackdown this week equals must watch.

feels bad man
Will always remember the 10/30/00 episode of RAW where Edge and Christian celebrated Edge's birthday. Not only because it was hilarious but because it was my birthday too.

All I can say at this time is.. let's wait and see what happens on Smackdown.. if Edge comes out and hands over the title and walks out.. then yes it was real tonight.. but if anything happens with ADR coming out and ruining it then I think tonight was a work and they will be having a match.. and THEN Edge can retire after that.
But yes it does seem real.. Edge is a Smackdown superstar and the champion so it would only be right for him to officially leave on that show.. WWE might not have had enough time to put together a video package of his career or any type of ceremony.. They have 24 hrs now to put something together and we may see a more apporiate goodbye on Smackdown.

A bunch of the guys come up and watch Raw every Monday and I swear the room went completely quiet during the whole speech. Grew up on Edge, he was and still is my favorite wrestler, and to see him forced out of the ring so early is both sad and refreshing at the same time. As a fan, I will miss his performances. At the same time, I am happy the medical issue was caught before more damage was done and he was seriously injured.

What a shock, but health comes first, and thus early retirement is a wise decision.
Thanks for the memories Edge. You will be missed. Now bring on the tribute videos...
(Where's CM? Poor guy must be devastated)

I'm in shock. Edge is right up there with Randy Savage as my favorite of all time. I'm sad to see him go, but I'm glad he's getting out before he's permanently crippled.

Why do people actually think this isn't just WWE being WWE?

He would make a great commentator if he wants to give it a shot. He was awesome just this past Friday shutting down Cole and putting over the guys in the ring and he could also be a great over-the-top heel announcer ala JBL.

Why do people actually think this isn't just WWE being WWE? It's for real. EDIT: And a link for anyone who hasn't seen it:

Well, I can't add much. I was of the belief it was just an angle to gain major heat on Del Rio for when he kicked him in the neck after announcing his "retirement" due to neck problems, but that seems not to be the case at all.
Still a bit odd and it hasn't really sunk in yet, so maybe tomorrow I'll be able to provide an essay on why I loved Edge, but for now, I'll just say he was one of the most fun people to watch in WWE for a long time, was a great asset as of this past Friday and to see him retire, don't know, just really makes me sad.

He had me lol'ing on Smackdown talking down to Michael Cole. "How about you attempt a citizen's arrest on me Cole?"

Edge was my first Favorite wrestler as a 9 year old kid. Kinda wierd seeing him retire but he had a good career. He will be in the hall of fame. most likely at WM 29 if WWE goes to Toronto.

Edge is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time, so it's pretty sad to see him go. I'd LOVE for it all to be a work, but I know it's not. So here's to one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots.
Thank you Edge.

I still have yet to come to grip that this is indeed true. This ing sucks. Edge has been a constant great worker in my opinion throughout his entire career. Whether it was a heel or face, he played it well. He could put on a good match with just about anyone and put a feud over with just about anyone. Shame his career has to come to an end like this, but it's for the best of his health. As others have stated I do hope he can still be involved with the WWE, as a commentator he would be amazing.

Unbelievable. I sort of just sat through the rest of Raw without thinking a whole lot about it. I didn't really have much doubt that it was real as I was watching it, but now it's really starting to settle in.
First of all, shame on WWE for not closing the show with that. I know it was sort of impromptu and unexpected, but how could anyone possible care about the main event after that?
With that out of the way, I still can't get over the fact that this is the end for one of the few guys I've had the pleasure of watching from the start of his career. I grew up in the Attitude Era, and so immediately I became attached to guys like Edge and Christian.
He's been a favorite of mine for years, dating back to around the time Edge & Christian started becoming more of comedic characters than what we had been seeing in the Brood. He's one of the few guys I've stuck by throughout all my time as a wrestling fan, and for quite a while one of the only reasons I was watching the product.
I think the reason I'm having such a hard time coming to terms with it is the fact that because I grew up watching him, I still place Edge in the "new generation" of talent. I forget that he's a grizzled veteran and often took for granted the fact that he didn't have much left. I thought for sure he had at least one more year in him.
The amount of respect I have for Edge as both an in ring competitor and as a person is something I don't have for many other individuals in the business. He will be missed to the highest degree, and quite frankly, the product is going to be missing something special for quite some time.
