I don't know why but before every GSP fight I get really worried for him. He, being my favorite fighter, I get worried that he will lose his belt and more importantly, lose the opportunity to see a GSP/Silva superfight. I got worried when he got put up against Thiago Alves at UFC 100, and GSP destroyed. I got worried when he got matched up against Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, Josh Koscheck and he absolutely dominated all of them. But now, I am seriously getting worried.
I've got to hand it to the UFC promoters because they are excellent at building suspenseful matches. I've been watching the promos, and now the UFC Premier with Jake Shields and some of the stats (He hasn't lost in 6 years, he only fights top contenders, he beat Yushin Okami and Carlos Condit IN THE SAME NIGHT, he beat Dan Henderson who many people said might have been the only dude who could actually beat GSP) and I'm starting to get that familiar feeling again. Is Shields someone to worry about? Can GSP beat him?

That's what is amazing about this sport; it's so damn unpredictable. GSP is one of my favourites as well, and I too am very worried about him losing, but if he does, so be it. Will I be disappointed? sure. Will I keep watching to see where Shields goes, and how GSP bounces back? Definitely. Hopefully though, he dispatches of Shields and continues to sit on his throne.

I'll put your worries to rest:
Jake Shields will beat GSP and take his title.

GSP will finish Shields. No worries. Jake's best chance is submission. He needs to get GSP down first, and that'll be a huge task. If he does, he is still at a disadvantage. He wasn't able to submit Hendo, Kampmann or Mayhem and he had the dominant positions the whole fight. Submitting GSP will take a monumental mistake by GSP. Otherwise, Shields has primitive stand up and GSP will exploit it with jabs just like he did with Koscheck.
Unless GSP gets Serra'd again by some miracle, GSP walks away with this.

One of the main reasons I love MMA - the unpredicability.
That being said, both guys have taken on tough contenders, and GSP to me is a great champion, I see this as being a very close fight, but one that will go GSP's way, probably via decision. I take nothing away from Shields though, he's great at what he does.

One of the main things that is worrying me is the fact that Jake Shields has been practicing his take downs and dominate positions on Phil Davis. Davis, being a light-heavyweight, gives Shields a great advantage of learning how to take down a smaller opponent in GSP, and keep him down.

One of the main reasons I love MMA - the unpredicability. I completely agree. You just never know who will win on a given night. All it takes is one good shot or if a fighter slips up once and could get caught and tapped out. It's that simple. You just never know in the world of MMA. However, if you are a betting man, bet on GSP in this one.

I get the same way before a Silva fight. I think GSP will win. So no worries

I won't ever doubt Jake Shields again. I was 1000000% sure Henderson was going to knock him out easily. He took Henderson's biggest shot, came back and dominated someone who has never been dominated like that before. I'll give Jake props for life.

I wish I could buddy, because St. Pierre is 2nd favorite BJ Penn(figure that one out lol) but it's bloody ing nuts to count out Shields. In fact Shields is such a qualified contended that you could almost call this a "super-fight" for the division. It's a shame Shields left SF before Zuffa got ahold of it. I'd love for this to be a Champion vs. Champion match.

In a fight of fighters who don't finish, be great if we got one! =D Last time Jake finished someone was in mid 2009. Last time GSP finished someone was early 2009. Last time UFC LW champion Frankie finished someone was late 2009. Last time maia finished someone was early 2009. Last time Johnson finished someone was late 2009. Last time Gonzaga finished someone was in mid 2009. Last time Barry finished someone was in late 2009. last time Machida finished someone was mid 2009. Last time Alves finished someone was late 2008. Last time Big Nog finished someone was in mid 2008. last time everyone's beloved Chuck Liddell finished someone was in late 2006. All these fighters must not be able to finish a fight then. Except they're all legit and known for finishing fights. Only 8 of GSP's 21 wins came by decision. This is coming from one of GSP's biggest "haters". How many professional MMA fighters have you fought and finished? I guess your not in the place to judge.

We don't need to be fighters to think that guys need to finish more.

We don't need to be fighters to think that guys need to finish more. My point is GSP has finished guys left and right before and Shields has his notable ones and the rest I listed are known for finishing but also have a lot decisions too. I just hate how MMA is a "what have you done lately" world. Some guys just don't have finishing power, I enjoy watching shields but others say he is boring because he doesn't finish but when Frankie doesn't finish people still like him because he stands. It's just lack of respect for the ground game.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of guys get enough credit when they win by decision... it can be awesome watching someone totally out-box or out-wrestle their opponents and fight more intelligent fights. Look at St.Pierre in his last 7-8 fights - his detractors will say "he hasn't been finishing fights": to me, it doesn't matter - he has been totally dominant, never even losing a round and never being in trouble - against the best of the division too.

really? that's your argument? this logic says i can't judge politicians since i've never been a politician. i can't judge basketball players since i've never played professional basketball. i can't judge cashiers since i've never been a cashier.

I think GSP has enough versatility to dictate this fight and choose where it goes and how he will perform.
But the odds on Jake Shields to win are too good to not put money on.
IMO no, you don't know what it's like or how it is and what goes in to it so you shouldn't judge. You shouldn't say a politician sucks because he/she messed up, we've all messed up before but you haven't been in his position so you don't know what where the underlying facts. You shouldn't say a professional basketball player sucks because chance are you don't have 1/4 the skill he does, you sit at home on your computer judging him. You shouldn't say your cashier sucks because he/she was slow, would have been speedy fast and polite to everyone during a long day of work maybe or maybe not. Again just my opinion that's all.
