How has it come to this? A former MMA underground champion turned into an SFF superstar, who is now a 40 year old man with nothing left but memories and questions. What more could I have done? How much is left in the tank? Will I be remembered? That last question has been asked in my mind over and over to the point it is just second nature, like breathing. It is also that question that haunts me the most.
My day, once upon a time, used to consist of waking up before the sun just to train, followed by hours in the ring, and then traveling to wherever my match was that night. Currently, my day consists of waking up and walking through the same routine, hoping that miraculously something will come along to pull me out of this rut. Luckily I have my family; my son Kevin, my grandson Riley, my nephew Brock, and of course my loving wife Shannon. Hell, my family seems bigger than that though. All those men I’ve grown close with over the years in the ring; Duan, Bock, Matt, Hammers, Kemp, Marc, and Ricky, they are all like brothers to me. And some of the young men that I have trained as well; Bret Thomas, Connor O’Reily, Chris West, Sean Connor, and Jay Tombs, they are also like sons to me. It really does me well to see those young men shine as they have been…
What if that’s it?! That’s the answer! How will I be remembered? What more could I have done? How much is left in the tank? THIS IS IT! There is no way I could get back in the ring full time, that’s out of the question. But I could teach. I’ve done it somewhat already with my family and “extended” family, I’ll just make this really official and organized. Shamrock Family Wrestling. That email could not have come at a better time. It contained exactly what I needed for my epiphany to form into a tangible substance, a partner. Duan Sanchez Jr., that willy SOB, has joined up with Bock, Marc, and Devin to start a new territory system. Naturally, he wanted to know if I was interested in getting involved and I accepted with open arms. They had the talent already set up from across the industry, but what I can give them is a future. What I can do is make sure there will always be a new batch of superstars foaming at the mouth for a chance to strike it big.
The format would be simple. I would open a wrestling school with a staff of my choosing. We would take in all those newcomers to the business and groom them for a few months, putting on small events with them eventually and letting those who shine work dark matches for the territories here and there. At anytime myself or a territory owner sees fit to graduate a student they will be called up and hopefully have been trained well enough to make an impact. Shamrock Family Wrestling. It was really happening, I was continuing my legacy in the industry. Duan said he would get out applications immediately so we could try to get a look at our future soon...
