Introduction
It’s 1999. Star Wars Episode 1, The Matrix and The Mummy become blockbuster films, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Shania Twain top the charts and everyone is looking forward to the new millennium. But most significantly the feud between WWF Owner Vince McMahon and rebel hell raiser Stone Cold Steve Austin is at a boiling point on the road to Wrestlemania.


1999 Royal Rumble
It’s early on in the night and the camera cuts to the interview set with Kevin Kelly who welcomes a very special guest.

Kelly: Its Kevin Kelly here and at this time I would like to welcome a very special guest. Ladies and gentlemen I’m joined by Mr. McMahon himself. I understand you have something to say, Mr. McMahon

McMahon: Tonight is a special occasion, a very special occasion actually. See there are times in history where great things happen and there are times where amazing things happen.

Kelly: I’m sorry Mr. McMahon but I don’t get what you mean?

McMahon: And you shouldn’t. Because all will be explained later. All I will say, is look out for something big.

McMahon walks off set leaving Kelly with a bemused look on his face

The Royal Rumble kicked straight off with big news. The number one entrant was Stone Cold Steve Austin and the number two entrant was Mr. McMahon. Stone Cold went right away on the attack pummelling him into the third entrant made his save. Both Austin and McMahon stayed in the rumble throughout many entrances and exits (some of which were done by Austin) The story remained the same as the action continued, Austin would get his hands briefly on McMahon before a competitor interrupted them. It was often mentioned by our commentators that it seemed as if McMahon had bought out some of the wrestlers to work on his side. Despite this Austin always triumphed and was racking up a fine elimination tally. The numbers started to rack up against Austin with Ken Shamrock, Big Boss Man and Test of the Corporation all against Austin. The eliminations grew as Austin continued to hang in despite the Corporation best efforts. All the entrants had come and gone and all that was left was Austin and his four tormentors. Somehow Austin mounted a comeback swiftly eliminating Test then stomping a mudhole in both Shamrock and Boss Man. The Big Boss man was the next man to have his feet touch the floor after a quick flurry of strikes by Austin. It was now the final three with Austin, Shamrock and McMahon. Shamrock with much more energy than Austin who had entered from number 2 took control but every elimination attempt he made on Austin didn’t work. It looked like Shamrock had finally dumped Austin up and over only for Austin to land on the apron and pull Shamrock over and to the floor. Shocked McMahon went right on the offensive punching, kicking and even biting Austin who was groggy on the apron. With every strike Austin looked like he could fall off the apron and down to the floor but he hung on. Austin then pulled McMahon to the apron with him as they both fought to hang on! Austin was able to get back in the ring and McMahon (after some fighting) followed. The first two entrants were the last two men and exhausted in the middle of the ring however attention was diverted from the ring to the entrance as a 7’0 tall monster slowly walked to the ring. Austin was back up on his feet mesmerized by this Giant, who made his way down and stood toe-to-toe with Austin. Austin began his attack on the big man, wailing away with body shots only to be pushed down with ease from the giant. The gigantic man pulled Austin to his feet and delivered a huge lariat! The monster pulled Austin to his feet again only to deliver a big chokeslam. Vince had now propped himself up in the corner and called for his assailant to dump Austin over the top rope. Vince’s big surprise lifted Austin once more and dumped him over the top rope and to the floor. The ring bell rang and we had a new Royal Rumble Winner. The winner of the 1999 Royal Rumble was Mr. McMahon thanks to his big surprise. The PPV ended with the gigantic man lifting Vince onto his shoulder as other members of the Corporation came out to congratulate both Vince’s win and the debut of a Giant.


The Giant is Born
Following his successful Royal Rumble win, Mr McMahon appeared on Raw to introduce the WWF to the Big Show, the 7’0 giant who helped him win the Rumble. The Big Show immediately won his in-ring debut against a young local jobber. McMahon called for another to come out for The Big Show to destroy. There was a build up to the following weeks Raw where McMahon would take the mic once again. This time to announce that he is giving away his Wrestlemania title shot to The Big Show, so that there could be an all Corporation main event at Wrestlemania. However, the WWF Commissioner, Shawn Michaels declared that McMahon cannot just give away his title shot and as a result it should go back to the last man in the Royal Rumble excluding McMahon, Stone Cold Steve Austin. After weeks of arguments it was decided Stone Cold would face The Big Show at St. Valentine's Massacre for the chance to wrestle WWF Champion, The Rock at Wrestlemania for the title.

While McMahon sorted out the arrangements for Show’s first PPV match, the Big Show smashed through all competition with ease. He moved from local jobbers, to WWF Superstars to facing multiple Superstars the same time. With just two weeks away from St. Valentine's Massacre, The Big Show issued an open challenge to anyone, just like he had done before. His impromptu opponent was Mankind, who after suffering numerous chair shots to the head by the Rock at the Royal Rumble had seemed even more strange than usual. Fans thought Mankind would finally take the fight to the giant but they were wrong. The Big Show dominated and instead of picking up the win took a double count out as he took Mankind to the top of the stage and dropped him off with a massive chokeslam! The final Raw focused on the destruction The Big Show has caused and questioned whether Stone Cold could handle The Big Show.


St. Valentine's Massacre
The big match (in more ways than one) of St. Valentine's Massacre came around with Stone Cold making his entrance alone, while the Big Show was accompanied by Mr. McMahon. The giant controlled the early goings using his obvious size and power advantage. Stone Cold attempted to fight back with strikes but nothing could affect the seven footer. The match soon showed it’s obvious one sidedness but Stone Cold refused to quit always getting an arm up or putting his foot on the rope to stay in, determined to get to ‘Mania for the title. Mr. McMahon screamed on at ringside as he watched his bitter rival get destroyed. The commentators noted, “I have never seen McMahon smile this much before!” The Big Show continued his dominance even throwing Austin to the outside and holding him up to McMahon so he could trash talk him. However, Austin found a second wind and used the energy he had left to keep his distance from the most dominant force in wrestling. Austin even hid behind Mr. McMahon while he caught his breath only for Show to regain control. When they re-entered the ring Show went charging at Stone Cold only to miss and crush the referee. A quick Chokeslam later Austin looked beat, he was laying flat out on the canvas and looked like he couldn’t get up. Luckily for him there was a sound of a car crash, then a familiar riff meaning only one thing.

Mankind was back and he wanted revenge. Mankind slowly walked to the ring with a chair in hand always keeping his eye on the giant. As Mankind stood outside staring in at The Big Show McMahon called for reinforcements, a mixture of Corporation members and staff. Mankind swiftly dealt with the small group with the aid of his steel chair, now it was time to face the giant. Mankind entered the ring and continued his stare down with the seven footer. Mankind swung the chair and Big Show retreated backwards until he exited the ring. Mankind followed but was met by some strong strikes. The two traded blows up the entrance ramp until they were out of sight. McMahon couldn’t believe it, he tried to bring The Big Show back down to the ring but he was too enraged over Mankind. Back in the ring, the referee got to his feet and called for the bell. He proclaimed Austin the winner of the match by forfeit. McMahon got inside the ring, shouting and bemoaning about how his man had the win. But for McMahon he was about to get another stunner, a Stone Cold Stunner. Austin celebrated until The Rock made his way out on the ramp, taking off his sunglasses and eying up his Wrestlemania opponent.


An Angry Giant
The Raw following St. Valentine's Massacre opened on a pissed off duo, The Big Show and Mr. McMahon. Show took his frustrations out on 3 WWF Superstars in a handicap match he won with ease but was interrupted in his celebration by Mankind who once again brought out a chair to combat the giant. The two fought once again to the backstage area, a scene which would be repeated throughout the following weeks. Mankind would cut a twisted promo, saying he finds new bruises every day, bled week after week and broken almost every bone in his body. “Every time it hurts but I can’t stop. Because I’m addicted. I’m addicted to pain.” He said that Show gave him a beating no one else can give him, within an inch of his life. And that’s why he wants The Big Show at Wrestlemania. The Big Show was quick to accept and the match was made official. The company continued to build up to their two blockbuster matches for Wrestlemania, Mankind vs. The Big Show and The Rock vs. Stone Cold for the WWF title and on the last Raw before the PPV the two feuds clashed in a tag team match. The match itself kept a lot back for Wrestlemania with ‘Mania opponents keeping their distance from each other. The end came as the Big Show took out Austin with a Chokeslam after The Rock had used an illegal chair shot on Mankind on the outside. The Rock and Big Show were on top on the final Raw before ’Mania but would they be on top after ‘Mania?


Wrestlemania XV
It was Wrestlemania night, the card had run down to the final two bouts. It was time for Mankind vs. The Big Show. A huge achievement for Show who had debuted just months ago and now was semi-main eventing the biggest event of them all. The Big Show came to the ring as customary with Mr. McMahon. Mankind made his way out running, he slid in the ring and instantly caught Show off guard with some strikes. The match had began. Mankind’s pre-emptive attack had gave him the advantage but it wasn’t for long as a Lariat gave the big man the advantage he is used to. To his credit Mankind fought back, stunning the giant and getting him into the corner. A ten punch in the corner was set up but after the eighth punch Show threw Mankind off him and across the ring. Show then took control with his superior strength and size. The Big Show looked comfortable in control taking Mankind apart piece by piece but yet Mankind wouldn’t give up, every time getting back up to his feet challenging Big Show for more. The first chokeslam of the match and it looked like the last. A cocky one footed pin looked like the winning pin for Show but Mankind got back up. Mankind began a comeback striking Show backwards then attempting a lift which didn’t go to plan. Mankind exited to the outside grabbing a chair, the referee tried to stop him but Mankind didn’t care and smashed the referee out of the way. Three chair shots to the seven footer and Show started to show signs of being hurt for the first time. However a huge punch threw the chair back in Mankind’s face. The match continued up the entrance ramp and to the top where Show teased a chokeslam from the stage only for Mankind to counter in mid-air into a DDT which sent both men crashing off the stage. Just over a minute later a staggered Big Show emerged and went back to the ring hoping for a Count out win. He was wrong, Mankind made his way back in after McMahon had woke the referee and had forced him to make a countout. Now back in the ring, Show and Mankind traded blows with the crowd ohhhing and ahhhing at every blow. Show’s punches seemed much more effective and led to the second Chokeslam which put Mankind away for the count. The Big Show had won convincingly on his Wrestlemania debut.


The Year of the Giant
The Big Show went onto have a record breaking year. Show continued to stand by the side of Mr. McMahon and as a result was never too far away from the main event on both TV and PPV. The highlight of Show’s debut year was his undefeated streak which spanned almost the rest of the year. It was shown that no-one could pin or submit the giant. Within his 5 months of his debut Show captured his first title in the WWF, the coveted Intercontinental Championship. He later lost the title via countout after interference from the WWF Champion at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin. The feud built up to Show’s first WWF Championship match at Summerslam. In Big Show’s biggest test he defeated Stone Cold to capture his first ever WWF Championship. The Big Show’s undefeated streak continued but even more wrestlers were eying up the challenge, now not just defeat the streak but also capture the title. The Big Show ran though numerous opponents just as he had done before until he met former Corporation team-mate, The Rock at Armageddon for the seven footer’s title. The Rock had turned face and in turn, left the Corporation. This would be the first meeting between the two. The Rock had used his charismatic charm to meddle in an extra stipulation to the bout that the match be held with No DQ. The match came and after a dominant display which the WWF fans had gotten used to The Rock mounted a comeback using a variety of weapons. The Rock pinned The Big Show after a People’s Elbow onto the giant to become champion and defeat the streak. The Big Show’s title and record was gone but this only made the giant more frustrated to cause more destruction...
