Mattel,
I'm interested to know, with the problems selling the legends line, why aren't we getting more in England?
Also, with the apparent lack of sales, whats your opinion on well known spams on both sides of the Atlantic trying to sell figures for 2-3 times the RRP?

Mattel, I'm interested to know, with the problems selling the legends line, why aren't we getting more in England? We stopped getting Jakks Classics at series 16, I think. Mattel must have assumed there was no interest in the retro figures over here. As for the prices on the websites... I hate them. But I still pay them, because there's no other option at the moment.

I havent shipped to the UK in forever but (if you were a loose collector) would it not be easier/cheaper to cut a deal with a US resident and have them purchase and ship to you? Might be an idea to just save a buck or two. I had a deal like that with a guy in Japan for a little bit. Saved me tons not having to go through a bidding agent.

Besides Legends, how is the action figure market in England? Are you able to find other Mattel lines like DC Universe? A stupid question, Was the older WWF widely seen in England?

It would be, but the only person that's ever offered me a deal like that on here was one of our resident scalpers, who essentially charges like double retail price. Some figures I have bought on ebay from US sellers, like the Bushwhackers and the WrestleMania 26 Undertaker, and a few Entrance Greats.

Mattel can't seem to get their act together with distribution in the US, I can't image what its like overseas.
Examples from my area:
3 Walmarts, no legends 2 Targets, both still have Legends 1 2 Kmarts, Legends 1, 2, & 4 (Never got 3) Toys R Us, Legends 1 and 3, never got 2 or 4.
And its not just the legends. Even the basic and elite series are all out of whack in these stores.

Target won't order new product until all figures are sold or close to it. Walmart killed most of their toy departments. One Walmart in my area carries every toyline imaginable while the rest have nothing. My Walmart doesn't even have Thor figures and they had a March 1st street date. Who knows what TRU is thinking, their purpose is to sell toys and they're lousy at it.

Mattel can't even consistently get the Basic series in stores! With all the problems they have had with distribution in their many lines, I think they need to take a large part of the blame. I don't know what they're doing, but they're doing something wrong.

The Kmart where I live doesn't have any new figures and they still have some Series 1 Legends. The Walmart gets new basic figures on and off. They Just raised the price on basics to $10.99. I want to find more figures and I plan to do that in Allentown tomorrow.

There is no "distribution problem". Here are the problems. The figures will not be sold at a store if the store sees no value in carrying the figures (figures are not selling). Or the store will not be sent new figure stock until the older stock is depleted. To my knowledge, a stores inventory system determines what does/doesn't get shipped from the distribution center.
For example: Kmart X overstocks Legends 1. Legends 2 and 3 are released to retail. Kmart X does not receive Legends 2 or 3 because it has back inventory of Legends 1. Kmart X finally sells all of its Legends 1 inventory. Legends 4 is released. Kmart X receives Legends 4.
Once Kmart X sells off its Legends 1 inventory it will receive the next available Legends series from its distribution center, Legends 4. If the Kmart distribution center moves large quantities of inventory, most likely, it no longer has Legends 2 and 3 available for Kmart X. The sporadic jump in Legends series has nothing to do with Mattel and most likely is not a "distribution problem". Instead, I would relate it to an overstock/sales problem.
This is occurring at my local TRU and Kmart. I never saw Legends 2 because Legends 1 was stocked from its release to November 2010. By that time, Legends 3 was released and the distribution center sent them a series which was currently available, Legends 3.
Currently, my local TRU has a plethora of Legends 3 leftover from Christmas. It is very likely my local TRU will be sent a limited stock of Legends 4, will not sell Legends 4 or will be sent Legends 5 once Legends 3 is sold.
Also, TRU and other large retailers do not hold onto inventory which is not selling. This is why you are seeing Legends figures at Family Dollar and TJ Maxx/Marshalls type outlets. TRU sells the overstock inventory to these companies to recuperate costs.
In the end, Mattel is at fault for overproducing, the retailers at fault for overstocking and the consumers at fault for not buying. I am surprised there was not better forecasting but I guess forecasting is exactly what it is. haha

Mattel ships it to each company's distribution centers who then ship the product to their stores. And with Target's stores don't get new product until that stores inventory reaches a certain number left in stock. All my area stores except for the WalMarts have had Legends 1 - 3 so far My 3 closest WalMarts don't carry the Legends. They never have had a spot for them yet. But if I go 20 minutes north all that area WalMarts have had Legends 1 -4.

I use to do it for someone during the Classic line but then the figures got harder to find and I myself just started buying of RSC.

There is no "distribution problem". That's unusual, I've never come across an American who didn't realise that America isn't the only planet on the country before.... Never mind, you'll soon have to learn Chinese when they buy your country. There clearly is a problem, when the only legends figure I have ever seen on Retail in London, is a Brian Pillman. London England, the forex capital of the world. Where more money passes thru than anywhere else. And we get FCUK all but flex force, and rumblers. No one wants that crap here!!

It's getting harder to have things imported through the online toy shops and any time you find someone willing to help out over seas they turn out to be profiteers.

They overpaid and they're economy has been terrible for 2 decades. Besides the Chinese need us to buy all their cheap junk. Mattel must believe there isn't an overseas market for Legends. If they thought there would be major profits, they would be there. Japan makes tons of toys that would never be seen here if it wasn't for importers, so it's not like we get everything on the cheap. And Rumblers are cool.

They're already propping you up by holding a trillions worth of US paper. Your debt wasn't 97% of GDP in the 80's. They have surpassed you as the biggest manufacturer in the world. GDP grew 10% in a year. US shrank 3.7% There are plenty of people here moaning about lack of Legends in the UK. As good a gauge as any.
