So he was supposed to have a run with the title correct? Are these facts correct? I got them off of obsessed with wrestling, now know as online world of wrestling... I hear this happened because he blabbed on some reporter and people about winning the belt before hand. Or maybe WWF just changed their minds on Luger....
~~~It was decided that both Lex Luger & Bret Hart would get title shots against Yokozuna at Wrestlemania X..
March 1994: Lex Luger came out with the World belt for a television taping, scheduled to air after Wrestlemania X..
~~~Apparantly, Luger was booked to win the title at Wrestlemania but plans changed and Hart won the title instead..
UPDATE
Saw this on wikipedia...
Luger was originally booked to win the WWF Championship at WrestleMania, but after getting drunk at a bar not long before the event, Luger (legitimately) told several people (including a local reporter) about the planned outcome.[10] When the information spread, eventually getting to WWF higher ups, the plans were changed to not only have Luger not win the title, but Bret Hart leaving the event as champion.

I've heard the story about Luger running his mouth before. We'll never know if it's true or not, but it would have been a totally different WWF with that outcome.

One change in a title like that would have totally altered the path the WWF was taking. Let's say ,for example, the day before WM14 Vince decides to keep the belt on HBK and just let him work a reduced schedule. Austin vs. McMahon wouldn't have happened, no baby face DX, etc.
The same would have applied to Luger. Instead of just being a mid-carder through out the rest of his WWF run, feuding with Tatanka, the Allied Powers, etc. Luger would have been the main star. He may have had a long run, and may have even stayed with WWF instead of jumping back to WCW in 1995.
Furthermore, there would have been no second title run for Bret. Which would have meant no main event feud for Owen, and possibly no heel turn for Backlund. No heel turn for Backlund would have meant no Backlund title win, no Backlund title win would mean no 8 second win for Diesel.
It's all a domino effect.

It was March 1994 that WM X happened. And if anyone deserved to have beat Yoko, it was Crush, goddammit.

The Lex Express was the crap back in the day.
Dude was on fire going into SummerSlam 93; still think he should've beat Yoko that night.

The story goes that Lex was going to win but its one of those wrestling storys that we may never know as fact. But if you look at that time period with Luger being hyped to the moon as the Next "American Hero", it would've only made sense for him to be the winner at WM. After WM though, they really had nothing going for him and no plans. And had he won the belt, I'm not sure what he could've done. Perhaps feud with Bret and heel Diesel or something. But this is nothing but a guessing game now.

From what ive read Luger was suppose to be Hogans replacement. All the way up to where Hogan couldnt slam Yoko but Luger stepped in and does it. Luger was scheduled to win the match at WMX but blabbed at a bar getting back to WWF officials and pissing Vince off because around this time is when they wanted people to think wrestling was "real" So they changed the ending. I think Yoko needed time off so they couldnt keep the title on him so the 3rd choice was Bret Hart. Which is sad that a legend was the 3rd choice to be vinces champion

I remember being at a Spectrum Wrestling show in Philly a little while before Mania and the rumor that night was at a recent Superstars taping Luger had promo shots with the belt and did some interview stuff and it somehow got leaked.
I heard later it was done to see how the crowd would react. My friends and I all went into Mania thinking Lex was walking out with the belt. We were happily surprised.
I guess it's one of those urban legends we may never know the real truth to.

So Bret winning the title and creating one of the most vivid memories in WM history was really "Plan B".
Further proof that Vince gives two sh*ts about real wrestling and cares only about muscles.

I have heard the same story for quite some time, but nodiy has ever been able to get it confirmed. It would explain why the WWF didn't follow-up on the whole Lex Express Tour by making Luger champion.

Or he knew what works. And having the "American Hero" is a very cheap way of getting a superstar over at the time. They just came off of loosing Hogan so they were looking for the next person to lead "America into battle". Problem was, no one cared anymore.
