It was on tv last night and It's the first time I'd ever watched it My ing god was it scary It puts all the latest horror movies to shame, i was scared within the first 10 minutes when the visions of the twins and the blood coming from the elevator showed up. Those little girls were creepy as . 31 years old and its still scary. Theres one thing i didn't get about it though, Why was Jack in the 1921 picture Thats bugging me to hell

It's a fantastic movie. Easily my second favorite horror movie of all time (behind the original Dawn of the Dead). As far as the ending there are a few theories out there, I don't think anyone knows for sure. Just do a google search and you can read what a lot of people have come up with.
The one I tend to believe is that his soul is eternally linked to the hotel, and every time it is reborn he is drawn back to the hotel. If you think of it that way and watch the movie again it makes sense.

This revelation that you are 31 years old is scarier than a horror movie could ever be. The movie is 31 years old.

The Shining is one of my favorite movies. I've never read the book, but I've heard the movie and the novel are quite different. Even so, the movie is one of the creepiest and well made films that I have ever seen.
On a side note, you could spend a good hour or so reading all of the theories regarding Jack's picture at the end. It's just so eerie. There's actually a lot of hidden messaging throughout the film which makes it even more creepy since you really have no idea what Kubrick was trying to accomplish.

Definitely in my top ten Horror movies. Also I share Parchandri's thought's on the end picture too. Jack being reborn, only to end up in the hotel later in life.
Though one thing I never got was the guy in the dog suit. For something I didn't understand it, yet it scared the hell out of me.

Never seen it, but I was reminded of Joey from Friends watching it with Rachel and getting all freaked out.

One of my favorite horror movies. Its not even the fact that its scary, its just so damn creepy. Blows every horror now-a-days out of the water.

This film should be the format for all films looking to scare the hell out of their audience. I was about 10 when it was released and watched it not soon after. The twins, the old lady, the long hallways, etc. just keep you coiled up not knowing what is coming next.

As for the ending, that's the fun of it. Was Jack a ghost all along? Did any of this happen? Were they all ghosts? Watch it again and decide for yourself.

Such a fantastic film. Nicholson does such a great job--everybody does actually... Some of the references from that movie will live forever "Come play with us Danny.''
I also enjoy writing "REDRUM" on whiteboards and whatnot around the time of Halloween...
