After watching B.A. Billy Gunn's match with The Rock at Summerslam and it got me thinking about his failed push, who do you think should have won it? I think Big Show would have fit better.
Also looking back at the card it's sad that the longest match in the tourny was Road Dogg Vs Chyna

Shamrock to me was the best choice but he had just won it the year before. Of everyone in it (including the first round on TV) I had hoped Jeff Jarrett would have won. It was a very lack luster lineup if I say so myself

Gunn was a huge bust. He had the look, could go in the ring, and was charasmatic, but he seemed to be missing that "IT" factor that makes people say "he's a top guy."
I'd say either Shamrock or Jarrett. Shamrock had won the year before, but unless I'm wrong, I don't think that he really had a main event push. Atleast Gunn was given an angle w/ The Rock for a bit. Shamrock didn't even get that. Had he won it again, I believe that a feud w/ The Rock would have done wonders for him since they already had a history together, and he possibly would have stayed w/ the WWF. He wasn't very charasmatic, but everybody knew that he was a total badass.
W/ Jarrett, say what you want, but the guy was over w/ his "Don't Piss Me Off" gimmick. The guy could go in the ring, was charasmatic, and if it wasn't for Austin refusing to work w/ him, Vince was ready to give him a shot at the main event. People say that he didn't draw a dime, yet he was a 6x IC champ. They didn't put the title on him for nothing. And in 2000, nobody in WCW drew a dime. Given a chance, I feel that Jarrett would have done well as one of the top two heels in the WWF w/ HHH in late 1999-early 2000.

i think Rock should have won in 1998 and Shamrock in 1999. Something was missing from Gunn and his push to be a main-eventer...

Agreeing with Rock in 98 and Shamrock in 99 though Rock still got super over in 98 without it. King Kane might have been a fun gimmick seeing the big red machine come out with his mask and with a little crown on and a robe.

I think that Big Show or Jeff Jarrett should have won that year, maybe even Shamrock if Rock won the KOTR 98.

Austin refusing to job to jarrett was not only 100% correct but it wasnt the only thing that went against him.
HHH had what Vince was looking for-if JJ had that too he would have been pushed further.
I think Shamrock should have won it.winning it back to back would have been a great platform for him.

Anyone else ever wonder why Shamrock never really got a big push after his KOTR win? The guy was pretty over, yet never seemed to do much after his big win besides for joining the Corporation. I've always wondered why Billy Gunn got a shot at a main event feud w/ Rocky, and Shamrock didn't.

Gunn looks like the stereotypical wrestler, blonde hair, tights, tall and athletic, he atleast looke dthe part of a Main Eventer. Plus he was pretty damn over as a heel if I remember correctly. EDIT---- After reading, you might mean why did Gunn get the ME fued in 99, and Ken didn't get one in 98. If so, then its pretty simple, the Summer of 98 was full, wasn't it? I mean there was Austin/McMahon, Taker/Kane/Mankind, Triple H/Rock dominated the mid-card, there wasn't a hell of a lot of people for Shamrock to fued with at the top of the chain. However I feel Gun was the best man to win the KOTR in 99, I mean I wouldn't have minded Shamrock, but his fued with Blackman was great and it all started really as the KOTR was getting going. It would have been nice to see a Main Eventer win tho, maybe give KOTR a bit more credibility, maybe Big Show, or hell, even Test. People tend to forget, Test was doing pretty nicely for himself in the Spring/Summer of 99.

Yeah, with all the main eventers feuding with each other at pretty much the same time, and Triple H/Rock ruling the mid-card, it was hard for Shamrock to fit in at that point. Even though he did pick up the IC strap in October, I think.

It's a shame Shamrock's KOTR win was wasted. The guy won it, yet remianed in the mid-card w/out getting a shot at the main event. Had he won it in 1999, I think Shamrock wouldn't have left the WWF as soon as he did and would have held the WWF Title atleast once.

Big Show or Jeff Jarrett for me.
A big win like that would have helped Big Show become a major guy in the WWF instead of the joke that he was until late 2002.
