As the title reads, how would you classify Ultimate Warrior's gimmick? Like Hogan was the American hero, Piper being the Scottish loudmouth etc..
and were you a fan of it, especially during his prime?

Raving Lunatic.
His music & energy in the ring, made you become a fan I feel, just because he was something different. Never any good as a wrestling technician or with ring psychology but got over huge in 1989/90

I often say Warrior was wrestling's version of The Savage Hulk. Both characters were based on unbridled energy and rage that increased as the battle went on.
My take on the persona:
Pros: One of the best looks ever. He looked like he was drawn by Marvel or DC and that's a good thing. His entrance instantly galvanized the crowd. The music and sprint combo was very memorable.
Cons: He was a DISASTER in the ring. His timing was off. His body control was lacking. He didn't understand match structure at all. He actually looked uncomfortable doing wrestling holds. The best part about him was his entrance. And don't even get me started on those cryptic promos.
I didn't like him then or now. I wish I did like him, because He has the most attractive figures collectively in the hobby, both Jakks and Mattel.

I was a huge fan of him, and I don't get why people say he was that bad, look at his matches with savage and hulk, two of the best wm matches of all time!
His match with HHH was so funny too.

Example: Summerslam '92 vs Savage, one of his few good matches. There was a point where Warrior was down in the corner and tried to do a spot where he grabs the waist of Savage's trunks and pull Macho over him and into the corner. Instead, he actually pulled Macho on top of him. Simple spot-- but Warrior blew it. He did things like this all the time and that's unacceptable coming from a main eventer.

It's not so much that he was bad its just people rank him too high in the main event/world title scene. If you take the greatest stars of the 80s together (all companies), he probably wouldnt come in the top 10. If you do the greatest of the 90s, he would be pushing 8-10 spot...yet for some reason some people want to put him as one of the top 5 wrestlers of all time, that's just silly. As for the question at hand, I watched warrior and cheered for him, but never could figure out what the heck his gimmick was. I would have much rather McMahon got a hold of Sting instead of Warrior. Sting has much more talent and athletic ability and while he still stumbled on the mic some, he wasnt a complete buffoon.

Sting was so dry, completely dull. Warrior and the Macho Man had the most energetic and intense promos in the business. It didn't matter if you could make sense of it. The point is that they were entertaining. I'll take a passionate promo over a bland promo that anyone can deliver.

I have never been a Sting fan per say but he was better than the Warrior in just about every aspect. He wasn't a natural speaker but at least 90% of what he said wasn't a verbal smear of incoherence. And their athletic ability isn't even close. Sting was often sloppy in his younger days, but at least he tried to be diverse in his in-ring work. He did things like jumping from the cage to mid ring at Halloween Havoc '89. Warrior probably would have killed himself had he attempted that.

Hogan would shout loads of bizarre garble you couldn't piece together, but I see you have the red and yellow flowing there, brother. Hogan was one of the best on the mic as well.

Hogan was one of the best on the mic as well. Hogan would pull some of the craziest stuff out of his ass that sounded dumber then hell....but it made sense. Just like his ramble in Wrestlemania V i believe about grabbing Donald Trump as he held on to his family and stuff. It was completely irrelevant and moronic statement....but it made sense if you look into it. Being an "all american" Hogan was saying leave the worldly possessions behind and hold on to what matters most. Warrior would babble about Stars in the skies, Moss on the trees and unknown Gods that he listened to. He sounded like a cracked out nut job that made no sense at all. I cheered for him when I was little sure, but as I grew up and went back and watched his stuff, he made no ing sense with anything he said or did.

I was just thinking about that one. That was one of Hulk's best, even if it was funny instead of threatening.

his gimmick was meant to be thjat of a wrestling superhero.in some cases it worked pretty well-others?not so much.
let me just say first of all I LOVED the Warrior from 88 thru 91.I was mad about him but I have to say I didnt care about him when he came back in 92 at all......or ever again.
cant really say what it was either......I remember having the Hasbro Warrior in white and he was rampant in my fed.....then my Uncle bought me the 3rd Warrior figure and I hardly used him.
weird the way a topic makes you remember stuff.

I have that Talking Warrior still...and the Hogan as well. I was always a fan of the white Warrior cause I didnt like the Green one cause the title wouldnt fit around his waste. Pretty much if the belt didnt go around your waist, you werent going to get pushed in my fed growing up
