New questions How far off from now is a elite Dashing Cody Rhodes? How far away from being in the elite line are the Usos? Why are basics more up to date attire wise than elites? Can you start to value our wants more? You said that if something won't sell, it won't be made. Thus why you won't make Trent Baretta or Curt Hawkins any time soon. But we as your costumers and as a unit want them, so why can't we have them? Believe me, they would sell. Why don't you incorporate suggestions into this Ask Mattel thread so you directly know what people want, and if something is widely wanted, please make it. Have polls, questions and throw ideas at us. You don't need to listen to our every whim, but having the fans in the process of picking superstars to be made won't hurt you. No offense, but the board members here make up so little of their sales and target audience and I can honestly say I've never even heard of Trent Baretta other than on this board...although I think I remember Hawkins being in the WWE a couple years ago. But has he been on TV anytime in the last few years? Why would Mattel release these guys that nobody other than these boards know? They wouldn't sell to the average consumer who has little knowledge of wrestling. If anything they should either be a Matty exclusive or a build a figure if Mattel ever decides to do that with the WWE brand. As for questions 1. What are the chances of putting a Build a figure in the Legends line? That way you could get a less popular Legends out on the market as well. 2. The new PPV9 Summer Slam 2004 Orton scan is fantastic will you be surprising us with more younger scans in the PPV heritage lines in the future? Thanks

The main reasons for the poor sales of the Legends, and most other collector lines are the explosion in prices, and the overall economy. That's it. Character selection, and attire is almost a non-factor. Look at what comparable toy lines were selling for 5 years ago. Look at what the unemployment rate, and where the overall economy in the United States was 5 years ago. I know some of you will still insist that if Mattel put so & so in this attire, or put this guy in the series, all would be well. Nope...wrong. As James Carville said "It's the economy stupid."

these Q&As are the biggest waste of time... They never let you know a damn straight answer about anything.

If Sunka would have been in his traditional barefoot attire and Slaughter in camo or green/black, I would have bought them. I have seen those figures on sale for lower than basic prices and I still didn't buy them, so attire is a factor for me.

Guys like you don't influence things much. You obviously pick & choose. That's great for you, but Mattel doesn't really aim a collectors line at someone like you. They aim it at those of us who want, and buy every figure. or a majority in a series. There are simply a lot less of people like me (and others here) who will buy everything than there were 5 years ago.

But has he been on TV anytime in the last few years? Yeah he has, He, Ryder and Barreta mainly appear on WWE Superstars which is now a WWE.com show in US though. The show was never a big ratings show but was getting them some TV time, obviously not enough for Mattel though.

Sure they would like people to buy all their product, but they know that's not going to happen. If they aimed it to people who buy everything then they wouldn't feel the need to shortpack figures. They know some figures will sell alot less than others (That's why Cena gets 3 or 4 figures and Ryder gets 1) If they even thought we'd buy every figure then they'd make even case packs. Same with the collectors line like Legends. If they thought people would buy every figure...Than they wouldn't have changed it from even case packs to heavy popular guys. Legends 1 & 2 was 1 of each, but now they heavy on popular guys and less on others. Legends 6 Warrior is heavier packed than Kevin Von Erich

Sorry PJ...wrong. You didn't read what I wrote in my original comment. I am addressing collector lines, in this case...Legends. Those lines are not aimed at the guys who pick and choose a figure or 2 here and there. Unfortunately, more & more collectors have had to resort to this, or drop this line altogether. This is why the sales for Legends are where they are.

What's funny about what I said? I think it's comical that you give an anecdotal story that you think has some bearing on the worldwide sales of a toy line. When you think about it...that is pretty hilarious...

If they thought people would buy every figure...Than they wouldn't have changed it from even case packs to heavy popular guys. Legends 1 & 2 was 1 of each. As was the 2-Packs. But now they heavy on popular guys and less on others. Legends 6 Warrior is heavier packed than Kevin Von Erich. And I think Legends 4 warrior was heavier packed than the others in Series 4 and Macho was packed heavier in Series 5. But I do agree that the economy and higher prices is a major factor as well. I know it's getting harder for me to justify buying whole waves of DCUC at almost $20 a figure. Now unless there's a C&C figure I really want I'll just get the characters I really want. I mean they just posted protos of Series 19(?) a few weeks back and I think there's only 2 figures I plan on getting when I used to buy the hole sets no questions asked.

I said that more, and more collectors are picking, and choosing which is why the sales are where they are. This is why there is some doubt if the Legends line will continue. A collector line will not survive without there being a large group who buy all of, or a majority of the wave. My main point is that Legends selling for between $15-$20, and the overall economy is what is hurting or potentially killing this line. All other factors are incredibly minor in comparison.

I don't want to interrupt anybody's arguments but I have a new question, if this is the place for them...
First off Mattel, you guys have made some truly astonishing belts for the figures (they were well worth the wait)... They all look amazing, but I was wondering if there would be a chance of slightly scaling down the United States Championship for future purchases. The belt is a thing of beauty and perhaps there is a reason for it being larger than it should be, and if so, no big deal, but just curious if its something that could be looked at as I, and I think some others as well, think it is a little big. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Andre the giant would sell just as well or poor as the repo man.... damn the economy! Who invited this guy?

The "no tv time" reasoning just feels like a convenient excuse to not make certain wrestlers. If that's just the convenient excuse, what do you think is the real reason they're not making those certain wrestlers? Just to be mean to people who like them? Yeah, that's exactly what I believe lol! I'm sure they're just doing it to be mean ! I have no idea why because I don't work for Mattel. I just feel they are using tv time as an excuse. If I had to guess, it's probably because they are afraid the guys will be released before their figure hits the shelves (although it's not like that hasn't already happened: Knox, Hurricane). For all I know, WWE may have even told them to not make specific people.

Why would Mattel think those guys are going to be released? ....Is it because they don't get much TV time?

Why would Mattel think those guys are going to be released? ....Is it because they don't get much TV time? You may very well be right. Who knows? My problem is don't say you're going to make the ENTIRE roster if you don't plan on making guys or divas that get little tv time. Just be honest about it. You probably wouldn't see as much griping (I know there would still be some), if Mattel hadn't said that numerous times in the past.
