Mattel produces essentially the same Cena in each basic series that comes out. Sometimes we get a slightly different head scan, or maybe a different color arm band. I currently own over 200 mattel figures (my fiance is so happy!), including ONE basic Cena. I asked Mattel in the Q and A about making Cena in the basic lines with a molded shirt. The answer was no. Why? The man has worn well over a dozen different shirts. It can't cost too much money on Mattel's part. It's just like making a molded singlet or anything else. Mattel looks like they are going to be pumping out a Cena in every basic series anyway, so why not make NEW ones? The collector in me would want every basic Cena made with a molded shirt.
Just wanted to know what everyone here thought? Would you guys buy a basic Cena with a molded shirt? Would you only buy one, or collect them all? When you see a basic Cena now, what do you do? Do you buy it or laugh?

Mattel is going for accuracy. Does Cena wear a skin tight shirt that is too small for him?

I think they need to create a Cena with molded shirt since he's in nearly every set just for a different change of pace.

I think this was brought up in one of the recent Q & A's and they said that it's not in the plans right now. It was something to do with the basic figures only being match attires.

A molded shirt would require a whole new mold plus arm molds. Mattel rather put all the detail into a fabric shirt to make it more detailed/elaborate than paint it on. I rather see Cena in a fabric shirt than molded. Molded shirts are silly. Always have been.

I don't understanding Mattel's reasoning. Not all Jakks shirts were skin tight especially before they got lazy during the RA era. But I also remember a decent RA style Cactus Jack. Mattel has made so many Cena figures a specific shirt mold for him should have been financially sound.

I see what you mean but I am guessing shirt figures wouldn't sell as well w/ kids. I could be wrong.

I wouldn't mind it, but not the Dreamer style. I'd want a t-shirt mold that didn't look skintight. The Jakks TTL era rubber shirts were cool.

Yeah the rubber shirts like the ttl ones are a good Idea, plus Jakks molded Cena shirts made him look like the shirt was tucked in, because you saw his belt. I HATED the jakks ones. I remember dying for a light blue shorts DA Cena and they kept making the DA cenas with shirts like da13 and da19. Finally big head da21 Cena came out and I was content

Why not like a CS Shane O' Mac shirt?

I too have just one basic cena. If they made one with a molded shirt I'd buy just one but that's the only way mattel will ever get me to buy another basic cena.

Will we get molded tshirts for basics? I would love a basic John Cena with a molded shirt.
Mattel: Nope, probably not.

I wonder if they feel molded t-shirts would effect Elite sales, especially Cena? The t-shirts that come with some of the Elites are a selling point.
If little Jimmy wants a new' Red Shirt' Cena, he may be happy with a $10 basic vs talking mommy into buying the $15 Elite one?

I really want them to come out with an un-tucked shirt mold like the R3 Rock had. I think something like that would be great for guys like Cena, The Rock, & Austin.

Jakks churned out those figures with molded shirts because they thought you could use the same shirt torso for everyone from Cena to Rey Mysterio.
Aren't the Elites enough?

i wouldn't mind molded shirts on guys like Cena (maybe HHH or Punk?) but as long as it's like Marino said, untucked. i forgot that they did that with the R3s and man, they did look good.
but i would get po'ed if they started using it a lot like Jakks started doing - what was that series? RA 30something where 5 out of 6 of the figs had shirts on? it was later, like 37? terrible.
overall, i do agree that someone like cena should get a molded, UNTUCKED shirt mold.

Bill said basic figures are for in ring play meaning they want to capture the accuracy of their attire when they wrestle.

Exactly, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
The Elites are special because they come with things like the T-shirts. Even putting a molded shirt on a basic figure de-values that.
