Frankie won't be spending too much more fights at 155 anyway. And why won't he?? You already said it was "the most stacked division in MMA" and now you are saying he won't be spending much more fights at 155?? If it was "the most stacked division in MMA" as you say it is, shouldn't there be a long line of challengers waiting in the wings for their crack at the belt?? If Gray is truly out of the title picture now, then who is next to challenge for Frankie's belt?? And Badnewz, if it's not about having more wins over a certain fighter and proving you are now the better figher like you say, does that mean that Rampage Jackson is a better fighter than Wanderlei, even though he avenged a loss but Wanderlei is still one-up on him....I don't know man.... I think in order to get them permenently out of the picture, you've got to beat them decisively at least twice. Kinda like how GSP has beat Hughes, Penn and Koscheck all twice over. He's DONE with those guys. He should never fight those guys again. So Frankie tied it up against Gray. It only took him over 3 years to do so...Does that make him the better fighter?? Maybe...Maybe not....He certainly had a better night than Gray did last night, that's for damn sure. And now I hear Dana White is saying Frankie is now #2 "Pound For Pound" in the world?? Wow...I don't know about that...I think he should have a few more successful title defenses before he can say that. In my opinion, I think the "Pound for Pound" list goes like this: 1. Anderson Silva (No question. He's the best. Period.) 2. Georges St. Pierre (He's gotta be number #2. He hasn't lost in over 4 years. Frankie cannot say that... ) 3. Jose Aldo 4. Cain Velasquez 5. Frankie Edgar And on and on... Frankie is an incredible fighter with what seems to be an indestructible chin. He's beat Penn twice and avenged his only loss to Gray Maynard in impressive fashion. However, like I said, I think he should have a few more successful title defenses before he's #2 "Pound for Pound" in the world because right now, #2 belongs to GSP as far as I'm concerned. I still stand by what I said. It is the most stacked division. Melvin Guillard was in line for a shot if he beat Lauzon, and look how easy Joe made it look. Any of the fighters at 155 can beat another at any time. Frankie wants big fights. He's really pushing Dana to bring in Gilbert to have a fight on Fox in the beginning of the year. Dana is open to the idea, but Gilbert still has issues with his contract with Showtime/Strikeforce. Frankie also wants to fight the winner of Guida/Henderson. I'm not saying he's COMPLETELY done at 155, he still probably has 2-3 fights left at that weight. But he is really pushing to have a title unification with Gilbert. Frankie would have went to 145 in the WEC, but he wanted to be in the UFC. If the UFC had the 145 weight class in 2007, he would have went there with no issue. He has had much success at Lightweight, so it's hard to tell the guy to leave, but like I said: he wants big fights. He will move to featherweight. The issue is when. Hatsu Hioki (#2 at 145) is going to fight later this month. From what I understand, they want to see how he performs against Roop before they make any decisions on who to put against Aldo next. The logical thing (if Hioki wins) is to fight Aldo in Japan in February, which is what I see happening. For now, Frankie will be at 155, but his days are numbered. I probably shouldn't have said all that, but that's how it goes. Frankie was 157lbs when he went in to fight Gray last night. 157. Gray was around 178. Think about that.

^ Ok, fair enough. I'll ask you this. How far down the rankings should Gray be bumped and if he wins his next fight or two, do you believe we will see Edgar/Maynard IV or will Frankie be gone from 155 at that point??
And what if Frankie doesn't lose the belt by the time he wants to drop to 145?? Is he just going to vacate the belt or what?? Is he just going to do what Anderson Silva does, toggle between weight-classes during certain title defenses??

Now, since no-one else is going to ask the question, then I will. Is Frankie truly done with Gray now?? I really don't know. I mean, in my opinion, all he did in the end was tie it up. They are officially one-a-piece now. Granted, it was a tremendous stoppage, but so was the stoppage when Brock tied it up against Frank Mir. They are one-a-piece as well. Obviously Gray won't be getting an immediate rematch, but I don't think with that loss he'll be knocked too far down the ladder in the rankings. Bottom line, I have a feeling we'll see Edgar vs. Maynard IV at some point down the line. Also, I just wanted to mention the complete dominating performances from Joe Lauzon and Chael Sonnen. Man, they both looked on the top of their game last night. But it's not about having more wins over a guy. It's more about avenging the loss and showing that you're now the better fighter. Prime example is Cruz/Faber. So now I feel like Grey Maynard needs to avenge his only loss in his career against Edgar sometime down the road...

Maynard and Guillard please.
Maia and Stann.
Two good fights that stemmed from losses last night.
Frankie and Aldo ( some time down the line ).

So now I feel like Grey Maynard needs to avenge his only loss in his career against Edgar sometime down the road... Maynard's had two chances to finish Edgar in highlight reel fashion, win the belt, and blew it both times. People jump all over guys like Chael Sonnen and Kenny Florian for choking...LOL Edgar was out on his feet...TWICE, IN TWO DIFFERENT ING TITLE FIGHTS, and both times Maynard pissed it away. Typically, I don't disrespect fighters for poor performances, but I'm sorry...the guy couldn't finish a sentence and doesn't deserve to be anywhere near Edgar or a title shot for a good while.

Not the best card IMO that I've seen, but was still impressed for the most part with certain performances, namely Lauzon's, Sonnen's and of course Edgar's.

I guess it might have just been because I was there live, but IMO it was one of the better shows in a while. The prelims were pretty slow, and Aldo/Florian failed to deliver, but I thought everything else was outstanding and I chalk it up as being one of the best cards of the year.

At the post-fight press conference, DW said that if Edgar wants to fight Aldo, he'll have to give up his belt and go down to 145 - so a Champion Vs Champion fight seems very unlikely at this point. I'd love Frankie to fight Aldo at some point, but (apart from Aldo), all the big fights are at 155.

Dana would do it. He says a lot of sh*t at press conferences.

Yeah if the venue and hype were big enough, he'd probably go for it. He let Penn go after GSP when he was LWC.
He also said that Hendo gets Silva next if he beats Shogun and has already jumped back on the Sonnen express following 136 and is looking to take it all the the way to the Cowboy's Stadium in Dallas for the rematch.

No argument here, the crowd was awesome, no doubt, most evidenced I felt in the Phan/Garcia fight, which was good too, but a shade too similar to the first fight bar the third round. I agree, the prelims were slow and disappointing in parts, Aldo/Florian added to the weight of my and the other patrons' woes...glad you enjoyed it though mate, looking forward to 137 now...

Watching some of the fights again, I really think Rogan and Goldberg should have done a better job of pointing out how few of Garcia's punches actually land. His lack of accuracy leads to tons of wasted energy. Garcia landed NINE power-shots. He threw 130. Come on, dude.
He did catch Phan in round 3, but he didn't stop and pick his shots. Instead, he did the same wild stuff he did before. Very silly if you ask me. I guess it can be exciting, but as someone who has trained kickboxing for years, I think it makes you look inadequate when you're fighting for the UFC, the top MMA promotion out there.

I'm surprised people was disappointed with Florian and Aldo, I didn't expect anything spectacular from those two guys, in fact I was more excited for Sonnen Vs Stann.
I was never familiar with the WEC, I've looked back on little bits of Aldo but for the most part my main experience was watching him when he gave Hominick(sp?) a second head. And honestly the term "P4P" didn't come to mind watching him, but I suppose his record speaks for himself eh?
On the subject of P4P, Dana White rated Edgar as number 2, I disagree but definitely put him as number 3. My top 3 looks like this.
Anderson Silva. GSP. Frankie Edgar

^ I don't know man....I just have a hard time putting Edgar ahead of others like Cain, Aldo, and even Bones Jones, for that matter. Edgar definitely belongs in the top 5-6, for sure. No question about that.
This whole "Pound for Pound" list doesn't even exist anyway, so why even bother with it. It doesn't even matter. All it is, is an imaginary list of one's opinion who they believe are the best fighters around.
Hell, I'm sure some people still hold Fedor in their top 5, or maybe even higher like 1-3 possibly.

I get what you mean but the P4P list is to us what super hero arguments are to geeks.

I don't know why Dana is so against Frankie being at 155. He seems to always be pushing Frankie to go to 145 even though he's dominating at 155 so far. He should make Aldo move to 155 and leave Frankie at 155 instead of the other way around. Frankie obviously likes fighting at his natural weight and if he continues to do well like he is then I don't see the problem.
Whereas guys like Aldo are struggling to make weight and doing tons of unnecessary harm to their bodies in the process. I think Frankie should be used as an example to other fighters who drop tons of weight to compete in divisions that they don't belong in and Frankie is the perfect example of someone that is successful at his natural weight.

It was pointed out on one of the websites that Joe Lauzon has now received either the Fight of the Night or Submission of the Night in seven of his last eight fights - including six straight after last night’s bonus for submitting Melvin Guillard. Pretty impressive.

None of his 21 wins have ever gone to the judges, either. Dude is a finisher. I love the guy.
