Because the Tournament's winner got a $60 replica of the Title CM Punk currently holds.

Because CM Punk won the title at MITB, the nest night there was a tournament to crown a new WWE Champion because storyline wise CM Punk had not signed a new contract. Rey won the Tournament and Cena got his rematch the same night.

Got my answer, thanks!
But this also makes the title not prestige anymore since they made another of the same belt. Personally I don't like the way they are dealing with the title.

UFC has interim champs all the time with the same belt, then when the actual champ comes back they fight to unite the belts. it takes nothing away from the prestige of the title.

Say The Champion(Number 1 Fighter in the weight class) is out with an injury for an extended amount of time. The Contenders ranked Number 2 and 3 in the division fight, and the winner will be declared the UFC Interim (insert weight class here) Champion and is given an Interim belt. That person will defend the championship against contenders until the Main Champion returns. Then The Main Champion and the Interim Champion will fight and the winner becomes the only champion in the division, the Undisputed Champion. Then everything is back to normal.

Then when the real champ returns from their injury, the 2 champs will fight each other to determine who the champion is. I hope this makes sense to you.

Isn't there a 30 day-rule in which a champion should defend his title? Punk didn't forfeit the title and still had plenty of time to defend it.
Kayfabe-wise, shouldn't have waited those 30 days before starting the tournament to crom a new champion?

I just wasn't sure how the champion would be out or what ever

Vince held the tournament to move on from Punk, only Punk came back as soon as a new champ was crowned.

Cena's title is a joke.
I think the reigns Rey and Cena had wont be counted as Punk is the 'real' champ, Summerslam will probably see Punk vs Cena. (In which I hope Punk wins) to prove whos the real champion. Then I think Punk would do away with the current design for a new wwe championship.

Basically Punk is the man and Cena got a toy belt and btw with all the money WWE got they could have made another title. But anyway Punk will win at Summerslam.

i think storyline wise, cena is the champ but punk's here to tell him he isn't so they'll fight for the belt to crown the true champ at summerslam.

That's a damn good question, but the you're most likely to get the Mattel answer from poeple around here: "Stay tuned!"

doesn't each champion get his own belt anyway, I'm sure I've heard some have their original ones on display.
