The parents of Madeleine McCann have been informed of a possible sighting of their missing daughter in India. The family have been told a British couple reported seeing a child resembling the youngster, who would now be eight years old, in the town of Leh last week. Madeleine vanished from an apartment in Portugal in 2007 days before her fourth birthday as she holidayed with her parents, Kate and Glasgow-born Gerry. Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCann family, said they were investigating the sighting but said it was "no more credible" than many other leads they receive. He told STV News: "Our private investigators have been aware of this report since the weekend and have been trying to establish the truth. Unfortunately there is nothing that leads us to believe that this sighting is any more credible than any of the others we have received over the last four and a bit years. "Initial reports were very confused - some witnesses said the little girl was about six years old - Madeleine is now eight and would look substantially different from the little girl who was taken. The search for Madeline is very much alive and we will continue to follow up every lead." Mr Mitchell said while the family were "extremely thankful" for all the help received from the public but they had no plans to "get on a plane to India" at this time. STV News understands the McCann family has not been asked for a DNA sample. Madeleine disappeared from an apartment in Praia da Luz as she slept along with her younger brother and sister. Her parents were nearby at the time having dinner with friends on the complex. The family has campaigned since the little girl disappeared in May 2007. They also wrote a book, Madeleine, with all the proceeds from the sales helping to fund the search for her --------------------------------------------------- news.stv.tv/scotland/west-central/264124-madeleine-mccann-family-informed-of-possible-sighting-in-india/

Why is this news? Any time there's a high profile missing person you get sightings all over the world.

They shouldn't have left the little girl alone. Personally I think she's dead.

I don't care about this girl.. or rather, not anymore than any of the others that are missing. I find it absolutely disgusting that one blonde white girls get all this attention and others don't.
I do hope they find her though, obviously.

^ Because she's not American. Not being arsey, but it's true, it's why nobody in the UK really has a clue who that Casey woman is either, that was a big case in the States recently right?
I think she's dead, and has been for a while, I just hope the family gets some form of closure.

Now do me a favor, name all these "others" who don't get attention. Gosh the people on these forums surprise me sometimes.

Myself and everyone else familiar with this story already know about her age so why does it ing matter? And you seriously want me to name all the children who haven't had mass media coverage when they went missing? The only thing surprising is your stupidity.

Gee thanks for insulting me you ignorant Brit. Do I know why their are so many children don't get media coverage? I don't know. But for every girl missing their is a case and I'm sure detectives/police department are trying to find evidence for them.

I can't help but think the parents killed her. Didn't they find traces of Madeline's hair and such in the car boot?

I think the reason she get's so much attention is because of the case against her parents. I thought her parents did it too, but now I think she is alive, somewhere...
