Hey guys, I don't think I've seen many book reviews mainly just DVD reviews here on the classic board.
About a week ago I rapped up "The Death of WCW." For the guys that basically know everything about WCW so to speak, this book is not exactly for you. I think for guys like me who were younger during the whole ending of WCW this book is for you. This book starts giving you the background of WCW and its MANY failed bookers before Bischoff took over. You also get to see how WCW was mainly concerned with ratings over PPV buys.
Another thing is the major announcing screw ups by the likes of Tony Schiavonne. I would have NEVER realized how many times this guy made himself and that company look like complete idiots by the responses he gave to certain promos or comments made by his other announcing colleagues.
You also get a bit better looking of the dying days of WCW. Also, did anyone else know that Lanny Poffo was signed to WCW and was making $160,000 a year without ever making an appearance for the company!?
Overall, I give this book a 8/10 for not only its info, but the constant humor of the author. It made it very easy to read and kept me interested throughout. Believe me, I'm not a book reading but I kept going.

a brilliant book! not sure how factually correct it is but would recommend it to anyone.
not only were they paying lanny poffo and others not to appear but one of their cost cutting measures were to only buy plane tickets for the people appearing on the card! totally bizarre!
another good read is the ring of hell - the chris benoit story!

I thought that it was a great book when I read it a few years ago, but it definatly felt alittle biased. I haven't read it in a while, but I think I remember the book criticizing when guys like DDP and Booker T won the world title when they definatly deserved those title wins when they got them. Besides a few small things, I agreed w/ most of the book. WCW had a huge roster and a ton of potential, but the greed of guys like Hogan w/ the incompitence of guys like Bischoff and Russo killed the company(and the AOL merger which was the last nail in the coffin).

This is the current book I'm reading. Hope to get you guys a review up here. I do too! I wanna read that. But with the closest bookstore going out of business [Waldenbooks, owned by Borders] I will have a hard time finding it. The next closest is Barnes & Noble. I hear they are even going back to bankruptcy court though, and closing 250 stores. I hope the one 45 mins from me doesn't close, because it just opened like a year and a half or so ago.

pretty good book but I'm not sure just how legit it really is
awhile back on facebook, someone asked bischoff if he had read it, he said that he had thumbed throguh some of it and what he read just seemed like a glorified dirtsheet...
but never know with bischoff..

Someone did a parody of the book by putting a "death of TNA" title on it, same pictures though. It was quite funny.

i'm a huge wcw fan, obviously, but to be honest i feel like the content of Bischoff's book (Controversy Creates Cash) is all i need to hear on the subject of WCW's problems and downfall really. for the most part i believe what he says is the truth and agree with his opinions on the matter too. i just don't really feel interested in hearing anyone else's take on it all.

I can definitely see what you mean. However, this does cover the times when he was removed from the company. The book is not really a knock on Bischoff.

I've read it twice and have loved. Again, I was conservative as i don't know exactly how factual the material is. However, the humor and history behind it made me never want to put it down!

Yep, the best thing about Eric Bischoff's book is he tells his side of the story of WCW's downfall

Loved that book, as much as I loved WCW.

If I recall the Death of WCW book makes Bischoff look like the only intelligent person that ran WCW. If you love WCW then it is a book that should be read as it offers a larger picture of what was going on from the early days to the end. The only problem I can remember is that it says Booker T and DDP were undeserving champions that couldn't draw and Kevin Nash was in league with Hogan to run the company into the ground. Most interviews and other books make Nash seem more like the guy that just lucked into big money spots and felt guilty about being with Hogan as he bled WCW.

yeah Bischoff comes across quite well in the early stages of the book.it just makes him look like he was shortsighted(which he was-98 is testament to that)
Hogans creative control was a massive roadblock for WCW.
