I hate the term straight edge...
Why can't people just say that they DON'T do drugs? Is that not cool enough? Does it have to have a name now? I don't touch any of that stuff and I definitely don't call myself "straight edge".But to stay on topic, why on earth they picked Andy to win this thing, I'll never know. Do a web search on sXe some time. It is more than just staying clean. It was a social movement which started in the punk/metal music scene in the '80s. It's about opposing (hopefully in a positive way) the culture of irresponsibility and death in the youth culture. And for all of you Luke fans, I doubt he would have fared much better. If he's even close to the party boy persona portrayed on TE, he was a Wellness Suspension/ DUI/bar fight waiting to happen. It's time for WWE to give up on TE. It doesn't yield very much in the long run.

It doesn't yield very much in the long run. He's only the exception that proves the rule. WWE lucked into him. There have been 5 seasons. Of the winners, 1 is featured on TV, one is serving a drug suspension, and the others were flash in the pans. TE just isn't worth it.

Lets re-cap what WWE gained from the 5 Tough Enoughs.
Season One: Nowinski - Got hurt and later used his injuries to aid in the advancement of concussion and head trauma studies in athletes. Josh Mathews - Acts as announcer for WWE despite having been shot by Tim White. Maven (Winner) - Yeah, just yeah.... Nidia (Winner) - The WWE tried with her, and her lack of everything won out in the end and she was sent back to the trailer park.
Jackie Gayda and Jessica Kresa (ODB) failed to make it on the show. The irony is that ODB played the trailer Park Queen role a hundred times better than Nidia ever could.
Season Two: Linda Miles (Winner) - Can't even remember her time with WWE. Jackie Gayda (Winner) - Couldn't make the show in season one and wins season two. Most remembered for a nipple slip on Raw. Matt Morgan - Rushed to the top despite being to green for TV, became a star later for the competition. JR says he never understood WWE's logic with Morgan.
Shad from Cryme Tyme made the cast but was kicked off before filming started for a failed drug test...so of course the WWE brought him in later.John Morrison failed to make the show as did Shelly Martinez (Ariel) and Kia Stevens (Kharma). Just imagine, WWE could have made all the money TNA did off of Stevens.
Season Three: John Morrison (Winner) Current star but has issues with management caused by his girlfriend. Matt Cappotelli (Winner) - To be fair here a brain tumor caused his early exit from the WWE so who knows how far he could have gone.
Melina, Daivari and Daniel Puder failed to make the show. It should be noted this season had the infamous "Lisa Meltdown" where one of the contestants went crazy, tried to hurt herself, was removed from the house only to escape protective custody and then proceed to stalk the WWE and Vince McMahon.
Season Four: The Daniel Puder season. Marty Wright (Boogeyman) tried out and was going to be on the show but was cut after if admitted to lying about his age. Mitch of the spirit squad was on the show as was the Miz. WWE though so much of the Miz they put him on TV in a Josh Matthews role, talk on TV and look like a fool.
Season Five: The first person eliminated had little interest in wrestling and more in being famous and on TV. The second person eliminated had alot of interest in wrestling and little interest in having a personality. The third person eliminated was a reality TV slut (in this case meaning she was on America's next Top Model and Dr. Phil). From there you had a mix of people that either proved they were far from fit enough to be on the show (Eric and Rima) to a group of people that were cut due to injury (Martin and Ivelisse). Sadly non of the competitors had the mentality or physicality to be a wrestler. In the end the winner is caught using an illegal substance.
So to recap the WWE gained around 20 performers from the 5 Tough Enoughs and only two real gems in the group, however it took years for the Miz to back his way into a spot as a top heel and Morrison seems more interested in Melina than his career so who knows how long he has left. Other than them the most successful TE constant was Mathews who serves as an announcer. The show may produce ratings and a glimpse into what it takes to be a wrestler but it lacks the end result of creating superstars.

WWE struggles with creative ideas for the guys from NXT, who are much farther along in the "star" process. With that being the case, it only stands to logic that the fed can't always translate young, often green prospects into long-term stars.
