While the world waits restlessly for Justin Timberlake to quit acting and get back to music, Will Smith is doing the opposite. Six years after his last solo album the Fresh Prince is reportedly planning a comeback, recording with in-demand hip-hop producer La Mar "Mars" Edwards.
"We're working on Will Smith, bringing him back," Edwards told XXL. He was busy talking about Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and the Game, whose new album he co-produced, when Smith's name came up. "That's actually [Will] on the other line right now," he said.
As everyone but the kids will remember, Smith started out as a rapper. Before Hancock, Hitch and The Pursuit of Happyness, there was Gettin' Jiggy Wit It and five albums with DJ Jazzy Jeff. After Bad Boys, Independence Day and TV sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air transformed Smith into a star, he followed up with four solo LPs. The first, Big Willie Style, went double-platinum in Britain and nine times platinum in the US, but by the time of 2005's Lost and Found, Smith wasn't quite so fresh. The didn't even reach gold in the UK.
Ironically, Smith's comeback could end up getting a boost from his 10-year-old daughter, Willow. Whip My Hair made her an unlikely star last year and she is reportedly working on an album. Willow may even follow her dad on to the big screen: she is to star in a remake of Annie, with music by Jay-Z
