Normally i wouldn't start a Fix up Thread for One Fix up But this ones different, this one comes with a story . Greg " The Hammer " Valentine I remember Greg Valentine as a kid, I Remember him well but not for his Matches, I remember him as Honky Tonks Partner, But mostly i remember him for being a guy who was always around. I always said to myself, wth is this guy? Here comes this stalky , Blonde Teased Haired Dude with no apparent special talents in this kick ass robe. I See him every tv show, every rumble, hes always involved but never wins anything signifigant, he fights all the stars but loses all the time, This guy has this Robe with Hearts all over it but why? He's "The Hammer" ... But why? Hes not Fit, Hes not Good looking, He has no Mic Skills or any cool moves... in fact hes boring as hell but here he is everyday... i could never figure it out , but i knew i hated this guy and wanted him out of my wwf Now I love Greg Valentine, Nostalgia maybe? I dont know why but i do, Its Like how I Loved Owen Hart Because when he was a heel he could successfully make Me Hate him..... Owen was one of the first wrestlers i hated , and its because of that i loved him, Greg valentine? i just hated him cuz he was too flashy to be boring..... But now Hes one of my fav legend mid cards anyways, i wanna know your opinion, Do you think greg valentine looks better in yellow or black boots?? Im leaning towards yellow, and im hoping i can dean to make me a yellow "the hammer" decal for his trunks

i really like the idea and it looks good with the robe on, but the head is too big for the body and he has no neck. not bad though for a simple fix up

Valentine was one of the greatest heels of all time. He made you want to hate him just because of his stern personality. He never said much and it was perfect. Swagger w/out voice is tough to pull off and he had it.
Another Legend which this reminds me of is Arn Anderson and to a certain extent Larry Zbyszko. However, Larry Zbyszko had a bit more open cockiness.
As for the figure, the figure looks okay but the head is too big. Yellow

Both versions are good but I like the one with yellow boots better. Not much of a difference but it's my favorite of Valentine's from when he was a good guy. He had such awesome music for being so bland. He shock a fan's hand or two going to the ring but you could tell it just wasn't his thing. He wanted to wrestle. I've read he preferred being a bad guy. For some reason that largeness of the head over the smallness of the legs is more noticeable on the second figure however the yellow one is perfect. That's how Valentine was made. That's his body!

Valentine was one of my favorites. One thing I was really wanting to see when Flair went to WWF was to see him grab up Valentine, Piper along with himself and Perfect and be a WWF version of Four Horsemen.
As for the fixup, I like the idea behind it but just not a fan of the size of the head. That really takes it back for me.

He had great battles with Santana for the IC title. I was hoping Mattel would release the Hammer at some point, but I really don't see it happening now. He'd be in my setup today if the Jakks head wasn't so large. I'd have him in black boots with blue trunks.

I always thought Greg's head in real life looked a little too big for his body, lol. The head may be a little big but not too bad. I really like the photo with the robe half off, getting ready for in ring action. I think it's funny sometimes how critical we are when we make our customs. We try our hardest to make sure all the body parts match color wise and everything is in proper proportion and looks perfect then when you look at some of Jakks actual production pieces you realize they weren't exactly spot on and they're "professionals".

Yellow boots but you need to shrink his head.

Thanks For the opinions guys, The head altho is large isnt as bad in person, I always found he kinda had a big head and had no neck. Ill Add a couple pics with him in my display, I think im gonna put the yellow boots on him for some color : ) a few diff angles.... its not too bad to me ... The head is a little big but i think it fits well for greg valentine, i have him at savages height... im really happy with this one. One of My First Jakks D.A Fix Ups was Greg Valentine on a JBL without wristtape and it was my fav fix up

Simple but effective fix-up, humongous head notwithstanding. Keeping the robe on makes the big head less noticeable. One of my all-time favorite heels and Jakks CS figure. The scan captures The Hammer perfectly. Have always loved how he would fall down face-first, on the mat after getting beat up. Something only he and Flair can pull off.

We need a Mattel Legends Valentine figure.
It sickens me that freakin' Savio Vega was included in the Matty poll instead of a REAL Legend like The Hammer.

One of my favourite wrestlers from that time period, such a great handle for psychology.
Your fixup isn't bad, but as said before that head is massive on it.

Apocalypse, you should try using a Jim Duggan body for Valentine, since he was always on the hefty/in shape side... I did that for my Hammer fix up, still need to paint and post pics... Looks good with the yellow boots only if you add a shin guard to him, lol.

Hey Brother i say yellow boots!! BUT DONT 4GET to add .... " the heartbreaker " !!!
seriously tho, all the boys have always held the hammer in the top echelon of in ring workers in his era.. before he teamed up w/ honky he was killin it more.. but his tv matches w/ the enchancement talent were boring.. gotta watch some of his house show matches from 87-89...
i saw hammer vs garvin ( either dec 88 or jan 89) @ msg.. SICK.
remember gorilla would always say: well it takes the hammer atleast 20-25 minutes just to get warmed up!
but yea man figure looks cool, wat face? i say keep the robe & black trunks, add yellow boots and stick the mouth of the south Jimmy Hart with him! but ya gotta add the heartbreaker.. who recalls that.!
its sad cause i dont see us gettin a greg the hammer valentine for maybe 2 -4 years now.. thats if mattel coninues the Legends Line ( if u can call the figs a line)... i'd be ok with a Basic Hammer in a ppv heritage wave.. maybe even Survivor Series 89! WHHAATTT!!! ?? remember how badd us old timers wanted that figure! the rythm N blues greg!!
i am truly relying on ppv heritage lines becoming more filled with actually alumni / legends / hall of famers and maybe only 2-3 of the orton/cena/show/mysterio current throwback attires..
and then we have Defining Moments! i would slick my left ring finger almost off if mattel released Greg Valentine in DM!!! awww sorry but that wont happen!
But i would love to see a Legends 2 pack with a HonkyTonk Man in his blue (hasbro) and Greg (either hasbro blk&ylw or R&B) even tho many teams i wanna see before em..
with ROCKERS coming on sale in NOV, i expect it to sell well, and i would hope to have another pack announced for sale in spring 2012 seperate from the 5 "chosen Ones" ....
sorry to rant dude.. cant sleep, BUT AWESOME HAMMER Fix UP Brother! great memories
just make the darn heartbreaker!!!

Like everyone said the head is just too big. I think hellsinkihellraiser might be able to shrink it for ya.
Besides that, Greg Valentine is a true Legend. Son of another pioneer - Johnny Valentine, Greg might look plain and boring but he's a definite throw-back to the roots of the business before cable.
If you haven't you tube'd it yet, I highly recommend seeing his bull-rope matches with Roddy Piper (I think they also ran that match on the first Starrcade). Valentine is a legitimate tough guy.
Yellow Boots for me.
