Thoughts? This could get them sued. This isn't like taking a strategy map or something like that out. This is preventing a customer from getting a $50 product - that they've already paid for, by getting the game from GameStop - and basically telling people that they're not allowed to have it. I'm guessing because GS just announced their intention to do the streaming to console thing, like Steam/OnLive.

Gamestop has always been skeevy with their practice of selling opened product as a new product, but this was just taking it a whole different level and it's disgusting. And you know what? Nothing will ing happen.

Their excuse of "Square Enix packed the competitor's coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons" is bullsh*t, to me. GameStop is NOT the only store where PC copies of this game can be bought, and I bet you NO OTHER RETAILER is pulling the OnLive coupon from their copies. And GameStop will get the $50 anyways, because you have to buy the game to get the coupon. Well, you won't get the OnLive code at GameStop now....but their excuse is BS.

Things like this are why I rarely, if ever shop at Gamestop. As a matter of personal preference, if I have the choice between a a new game that is sealed and fresh off the shelves, or a new game that has been opened (and quite possibly been taken home for testing by the employees) at the same price, the sealed copy is going to win out every time. To me, if it's open, it's not new anymore.

I get their point, now that they have Impulse which is a direct competition to Onlive. But you know what grown ups would do? Recall it and tell Squeenix to send them copies without the coupon.

I didn't know Gamestop even sold PC games in their stores anymore. I never see them there, and no PC gamer I know buys their stuff there.
That being said, that is incredibly lame, but not surprising at all.

It's pretty disgusting, but then again this is the same store that lets employees take new games home and still sell them as new.

Gamestop has really been pissing me off lately. They way that they've been packaging their products has been getting so shady now. Take the case (No shrink wrap), Get the game out of a drawer in a disc sleeve, put the game in the case, and put a small seal on where the case separates.
It's just really shady.

Whenever they try to sell me an opened copy of a game as new, I refuse to buy it. I don't make a big deal, I just say, no thank you. I want an unopened copy. If they don't have it, I get it elsewhere.

Gamestop is the way to go when it comes to used games but new? not a chance. I only get new there if its pre ordered that way i know its new for sure.

this seems unreal - surely they'll face some legal ramifications for this.

I as a gamer barely buy anything from GameStop, because I don't just play games, but I collect them as well. So, when they are on my shelf I want them to look nice, and when I buy a new game for $60 I want it to be in the shrink wrap in perfect condition. Although if you buy a "NEW" game from Gamestop they give you a game that's not in the shrink wrap, but has been behind the counter in sleeves that could scratch the disc and has been tampered with, therefore it's no longer new, but they still sell it for $60. So, when you buy a new game for 60 bucks, but never play it and take it back the next day you'll get less than like $20 for a game you payed 60 bucks for yet never played. So you can never actually get a new item from GameStop (unless you preorder), because they screw you over, just like they're screwing us over with this load of . Not to mention those stupid ing stickers they put on the case, and when you try to peel it of it leaves a bunch of poop on the case. They are a very unprofessional company and should definitely get sued over this. Gamestop is just Bullpoop!

They need to be on shrink-wrap....

Its easy to get the stickers off. i payed about $10 for most of my games and youd think they are brand new. just hunt for the right case and the inserts.

I've completely and totally cut out the used games portion of my life. The only time I buy a used game these days is when it's 20 years old and at a swapmeet that some jackass decided to write their name on in Sharpie.

Ive had issues with one game not working ever and it was brand new and in shrinkwrap. used games arent bad and they have a warranty.
Anyways I called y friend out at gamestop about this and she tried to justify it.
