-- It is rumoured that Kurt Angle challenging Samoa Joe for our upcoming iPPV, "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" is not, as it first seemed, a random occurance. Rather, it has transpired that Kurt Angle has accepted one of a number of "open contracts" issued to promotions around the world by ROP commisioner Roddy Piper. It is rumoured that contracts have been sent to American organisations such as TNA, ROH and PWG and even as far afield as AAA in Mexico, NJPW in Japan, and wXw in Germany! More on this story as we get it.
-- There has been, as of yet, no word on whether Sin Cara will be accepting the challenge of Claudio Castagnoli. Ring of Poison officials are desperately trying to organise the match with WWE officials, but obviously the WWE tour schedule could cause conflicts. Hopefully, by the time the second edition of the Podcast of Poison goes online, we will have an answer!
-- In a phonecall this morning, Ring of Poison's insurers, London based firm Willis, Taft & Pook confirmed that they will not be providing cover for Rob Van Dam should he continue with his plan to challenge Kevin Steen at the iPPV. Van Dam has claimed he will provide the booking fee for Steen, who attacked RVD at our most recent event, as Steen is not an official Ring of Poison competitor.
-- On the subject of Kevin Steen, this video was posted on Steen's official Twitter account (Kinshasa) in regards to Ring of Poison, and Rob Van Dam...
Steen: It appears a certain wrestling company, based in backwater Pennsylvania, didn't quite get the message I was trying to convey. Ring of Poison, I wasn't just lashing out at Rob Van Dam when I came out the crowd - I was lashing out at years of rejection, and denial from what purports to be one of the largest indy companies in America.
Steen: I'm tired of seeing Ring of Poison pushing has-been ECW "superstars" like Rob Van Dam, Terry Funk and Tommy Dreamer, when there is hungry young talent like me, who would kill for a chance on a stage like this! And if the Ring of Poison isn't going to give me the opportunity, if they aren't going to even pay my booking, then they can pay the consequences. Rob Van Dam, putting it on the line, laying down the money to book me, might just be the dumbest thing you've ever done. I'll see you at "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine"...and I won't be coming alone.
-- Matt Sydal, one third of The Prophecy and by proxy, holder of the ROP Tag Team Championship, is enjoying a hugely succesful tour of Dragon Gate in Japan right now, tangling with the likes of CIMA, Dragon Kid and BxB Hulk. He is scheduled to return from the Land of the Rising Sun towards the end of September, but the question is whether the tag titles will still be there to be defended by The Prophecy, if they can overcome Cloudy and Low-Ki in their big tag team Street Fight on the upcoming iPPV!
-- Finally, Dragon el Tire has continued to impress noted wrestling reviewers with his performances, with noted Lucha Libre blogger TheCubsFan noting that, "this exciting young competitor has been making a real impact in the Mexican independent scene, including a tremendous match at Arena Nacapulcan for the IWRG promotion against Mexican legend Skayde." CubsFan also comments that his unique mix of traditional lucha style, Japanese strong style and the European catch style has seen him fast appear on the radar of AAA and CMLL, as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling.
