I don't know who I thought it would be but I remember being very disappointed when it was revealed to be Rikishi.

I don't think anyone expected it to be Rikishi, it definitely shocked me...but looking back the reveal of it being Rikishi was disappointing to say the least.
I was adamant it was going to be The Rock thus turning him heel.

I really liked Rikishi but though the end of this story line was terrible every thing else building up to it was great. It was like they came up with this great story line and could not figure out the end and last minute decided on Rikishi.

i thought Rikishi was a poor choice. He was OVER with the fans and he just didn't fit the part of a heel. I believe it was originally Billy Gunn set for the driver.

Billy Gunn would of been a interesting choice, I think the heel turn did him good and he did a good job, shame is didnt last very long then rikishi went on to tag team with haku not long after.

totally wasnt expecting Rikishi.I was expecting someone new to be honest like Kevin Nash or Scott Hall.Hall hadnt been on TV for ages in WCW so I was leaning there.
at the very least I thought someone outside the WWE.

Someone correct if I'm wrong here, didn't they go the Rikishi route because they thought it'd be too obvious?

Rikishi was a disapointing choice. Its like when the WWE had Austin run down, they didn't know who was gonna be HHHs acompliss.
Until it was revealed as Rikishi, I thought that it was gonna be HBK. Being a friend of Triple H, it would have fit perfectly, as not long before Austin was run down, HBK helped Hunter by screwing Rocky out of his title match on the very first SD. Too bad HBK was still out w/ the back injury and his drug problem, because I think it would have been the most logical choice to have had him as Hunter's acompliss.

I mentioned Hall or Nash above in terms of the clique but yeah your right HBK would have been the perfect choice. it would have been perfect since HBKs last match was a loss to Austin.

Thinking back to the event, and from what I've read, it was supposed to be Billy Gunn, and again, watching SS99 it does make it seem it was Gunn in a sly way. Honestly, I think it would have been better, it would have meant more, I mean its not that very well known nowdays that Austin was run down, what I'm saying is that it could/should have been someone better who could have made the whole storyline more important and longer lasting.

I was hooked on that one too, also loved the armageddon hell in a cell a month later.

yeah,it came as a shock being Rikishi, considering he was still in the midst of his most popular year and push as a Face....
