Shogun Rua Tabbed to Welcome Dan Henderson Back at UFC 139 Posted on September 19, 2011 by Erik Fontanez Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua have verbally agreed to face off at UFC 139 on Nov. 19, MMAWeekly.com has learned. Independent sources confirmed the fight, which will stand as Henderson’s return to the organization after defeating Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko in Strikeforce. The bout will likely be the new main event for the card that saw its prior main event between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and no. 1 contender Junior dos Santos get moved to the main event of the Nov. 12 UFC on Fox fight card. Henderson’s return will signal the start of his third tenure in the UFC after recently spending some time in Strikeforce, where he won the organization’s light heavyweight crown in March. At 41 years old, Henderson remains a viable competitor at both middleweight and light heavyweight, and will look to hold the same status in his return to the Las Vegas-based organization. Rua is coming off a win over Forrest Griffin in a rematch at UFC 134, where he knocked out the TUF season 1 winner in the first round. Despite winning the light heavyweight title in May of 2010, Rua has seen mixed results during his time in the UFC with a record of 4-3. A fight with Henderson shows the road back to the title isn’t one traveled lightly, but it ensures a great match-up. MMAWeekly.com will have more updates on the UFC 139 as more information becomes available. mmaweekly.com/shogun-rua-tabbed-to-welcome-dan-henderson-back-at-ufc-139Bring....it....on!

Damn man. 2 favorites going at it. I can honestly see Hendo loading up that H Bomb and going headhunting the entire time, but that's not the best strategy with Shogun. Shogun.. I don't know if he's got the power to put Hendo down for the count. Hendo's been stumbled by Fedor and the opponent before that but hasn't been put out. Anything's possible though.
Hendo I feel takes this by using his wrestling, taking Shogun down and wearing him out for the decision.

Awesome.
Even better, the 5 round main event is in effect.

Wow, this isn't nails in Strikeforce's coffin, at this point it's like necrophilia. Just... ouch. I weep for what Strikeforce once was.
That said, I think I'm going to love this fight and I think it's going to be a fantastic war. Just wish the circumstances were different.

I've seen this happen in every thread. We have a thread tilted Vitor vs. Le where we discuss that fight. I don't see the harm in having a thread about this one. It should be up for discussion in a different thread since it its a big fight and we don't have an official event thread. Unless we're going to have months in advance "Official UFC 1.. So vs. So" threads, I think its perfectly logical to keep the two separate. I don't go into a Le/Vitor thread to discuss Hendo/Shogun. Just my opinion anyway.

It just gets very silly when there are threads about multiple fights on the same card, that's all. It's happened before a few times and it was ridiculous.

Wow, this isn't nails in Strikeforce's coffin, at this point it's like necrophilia. Just... ouch. I weep for what Strikeforce once was. Yeah... I always thought if Hendo signs with the UFC, that''ll be the final nail in the coffin for Strikeforce. I'm really pleased to see him back in the UFC though (figure please, Jakks!!) - and the fight with Shogun seems perfect for both of them. I like Hendo by decision.
